I expect to see concept art for these chipmunks, with their fearsome acorns, and to see them stationed at each access way in the "lair" shortly there after.

Well, no one really knows what's taking place beyond the gates of Icecrown Citadel. Perhaps the motives of the Lich King and his dominion over the Scourge aren't fully understood as of yet.
