I just noticed that the Vanish change is no longer in the PTR Patch notes and I remember seeing GC post that you guys were unhappy with the design change several days earlier. So is the big band aid of 3.3 no longer planned or are you guys brainstorming a better solution? Honestly, it's depressing when the only thing a patch brings is a new irrelevant passive. See 3.2 Axes.

P.S. - I Vanished the other day, 10 yards away and a Succubus' Seduce still blew me out of Stealth. Yesterday I fought a Mage and getting a 30 yard distance to re-Stealth, his Elemental and Images nuked me out of stealth. I don't think 0.5-1 s of immunity is going to change the former. The latter, well #$%^ that's just bad design.

What did they buff for rogues to cause this mass influx?

They nerfed DKs. That's the biggest buff rogues could have ever received.

The "latter," is an intended game mechanic so that you cannot just get a free restealth vs. pet classes. I don't think it's a good mechanic, but it's intended so I'd recommend you just deal with it. :-P

I are suck at this game.

Q u o t e:
We're working on a hopefully better fix now where we record the time that a missile leaves the caster and compare that to when the Vanish is activated. There still might be edge cases though that this doesn't fix, if for example the cast and the Vanish happen very close together and someone's client isn't updated quickly enough. TLDR: It's complicated.

For perspective, in patch 2.4 prior to LK, Vanish was more reliable in the situation I'm talking about above: used after a spell was cast would make you immune to the spell. It had some other bugs at the time, but all of those that we know about have been fixed. We have made many changes to the way spells work in the 3.X cycle, and one of them made the situation bad again. We need to get the conflict between missile travel time and Vanish resolved the way it used to work. The bad news is that since this is a code fix, it might not make it into 3.3. The good news is that because it is likely a server fix, it doesn't need to wait for a major patch.

Just to be clear, I re-Stealthed from 30 yards away and his pets chased me down to blow me out of Stealth. It wasn't as if a missile was in the air, they chased me down while I was stealthed until they were in range to nuke me. You're saying this is intended?

To the second post, yeah that's the one I saw. The problem with Vanish is twofold, 1) DMG after the Vanish breaks it, and 2) pets still follow/attack the Rogue after Vanish. His post only addresses the first problem.

Just for my own curiosity, can you link where that's been stated as a legitimate game mechanic and not a bug.

Vanish will never be fixed, just live with it. It was working for about a week on PTR while the "immunity" was at 1 second but the massive amount of QQ forced Blizzard to change it back.

Makes a poof sound and breaks movement impairing effects.

=/=

Allows the rogue to vanish from sight, entering an improved stealth mode for 10 sec. Also breaks movement impairing effects.

I have no link handy, but it has been stated by blues many many times over the years.

And a pet following a rogue in stealth only happens sometimes, it isn't reliable. Sometimes the pet will follow the rogue but not attack, sometimes it will use an ability on the rogue and sometimes it will just go back to it's owner. I have had all of these happen when playing my warlock when my pet is on passive.

It's a bug, Blizzard is just in denial because they don't want to fix it.

Re-stealthing against pets worked back around S4 briefly. Now it seems inconsistent, sometimes you'll get away other times the pet will keep following. Don't argue that against pet classes though, it seems when you roll one you automatically start believing that since you have an NPC following you around you should be immune to having to worry about rogues restealthing.

They've stated it countless times. STEALTH IS NOT AN ESCAPE MECHANIC. The pets continuing to chase you is intended and has also been stated many times.

It actually wasn't working well on the PTR because some casts that should not have broken it still broke it and it also prevented legitimate stealth breakers from functioning well. We probably could have lived with one of those problems, but with both it didn't seem worth the change.

I know it's more fun to blame it on forum QQ though.

There you have it... It's just a technical limitation that can't be overcome without giving a mini cloak to rogues, which to be honest would be OP.

Latency, travel time etc etc..

Let it die, rogues have made due with it for 4 years so...

Step 4: If the paladin bubbles, root the paladin and bandage yourself. If you are a mage, use Ice Block.

I hope this is true cuz my shadowfiend always loses the rogue when he vanishes. But then again, shadowfiend ai is the worst pet ai I've ever seen.

So how do those Leggings of Unstable Discharge feel? I imagine they'd be a bit moist on the inside.

So is it safe to assume a 3.3 Vanish fix is unlikely? Unlikely is, quite obviously, said optimistically.

both of those problems were worth it because it worked more often and things that should have broke it, it doesn't matter if the super skilled player reacted quickly and shouted/AoE'd if they were so super skilled they could do the same one second later, of course that's my thoughts on it though.

AoE hard modes are fun.
