Q u o t e:

You're right. Far fewer people will be leveling with a 25% experience boost as compared to those leveling with a 20% experience boost with heirloom items. Given all of the scaling heirloom items in the game and the ways in which we've eased the leveling experience, we're okay with that.

It shouldn't be expected that every heirloom item with increased experience will be made readily available to every 80 player. This is a special ring for a few select lucky winners a month. Good luck!

Do the devs really have that much time on their hands where they can develop content that is only for 4 people a month?

I only ask because I thought you guys specifically said you were getting away from that in WOTLK.

It may be anecdotal to mention, but if your suggestion came to fruition, your thread would be replaced by a number of other threads complaining that an amazing legendary item is being made available for RNG to random, lucky fishers.

The truth is, when anything in the game is changed or added, there is cause for complaint and cause for celebration. So say we all.

Yeah, I know, this is kind of what I'm getting at. =P This reward targets a MUCH smaller crowd, don't you agree? Which is the reason you're not afraid to use an heirloom as a reward, but refuse to use a legendary as the reward. The legendary would surely cause you more of a headache, would it not?

It sounds a lot more luckbased than the STV one :\

in STV a team of players can really increase the chances of someone winning, by going around and killing the opposing faction. This sounds like it's just luck of the draw though, which is pretty lame.

Q u o t e:

Ha, yeah, my attitude of everything being too easy. I completed Naxx pre-bc and Sunwell pre-3.0. (Since I know people will be like, yeah right, my mage's name was Skizzik when I killed Kel at 60, with Juggernaut of Doomhammer and my paladin's name was Razzia when I killed Kil'jaeden with Gentlemen's Club of Korgath at 70). I don't care about there being a unique item from fishing. I really don't. I care about heirlooms being accessible to the majority of players. I've leveled 6 80s and have another 3 70s. Things aren't just handed to me. I'm fine working for them. But no reason to limit people who love to level like I do by making the reward an heirloom. Keep thinking you know me though. People like you who just flame everyone are the people who ruined this game. It used to be fun when there was actually a sense of community.

If you love to level so much why do you care about an extra 5% exp. You will enjoy it one way or another...
Or are you just QQ'ing for no reason, cuz thats what it looks like.

I just wish it was at a different time, for me it's midnight, and in the middle of the week! How am I going to pull that off consistently enough for even a chance at the ring?

Yeah that sort of sucks, it being midnight for you and all. But at least it's only one night a week and only for an hour....if that's any consolation.... >.<

this is sort of the same thing we see in onyxia, a lucky person gets something that someone else has been trying to get for weeks. normally its not all that bad since you can find replacements for the gear elsewhere

but this is the only 5% increase to exp ring in the game. you can not get a replacement for that.

make something lucrative so people will do it where they normally will not... fishing, i get it.

if you put a diamond on a dog turd and tell people if they eat the turd they can have the diamond, people will still do it. that is what Blizzard has done here.

but a turd is still a turd, and fishing is still fishing.

i will not do the fishing, i will not eat the turd. but i will hit Blizzard on the nose with the newspaper for making the turd

Our developers are divided into several different teams with different focuses. Our professions designers had this tournament in the works for a while and feel that 3.3 was a good time to get it in. This doesn't take away from developing art, designing encounters, keeping classes balanced and fresh, etc.

Our development team is like Eddie Murphy in "Meet Dave." Tom Chilton/J. Allen Brack may be the commanders controlling the human-like vessel, while all of our developers are divided into teams to maintain the various limbs of the body and ensure all systems are functioning.

Yea, I went there. I watched that, and about 25 other movies a few weeks ago when I was really sick.

People would be up in arms if nothing changed too.

You must play the game.
You can't win.
You can't break even.
You can't quit the game.

was the event purposefully scheduled to occur during prime time raiding hours?

makes me sad enough that I can never do the fishing tournament since I work Saturdays :(

I'd bet anything when they eventually allow the heirloom experience bonus to work past level 80 (probably five or six months after Cataclysm goes live) they will put that same ring on a badge vendor.

But imagine when I level another 5 or 6 more toons before cataclysm, just how much time, 5% off of every single one of them, would save (yeah, even if I leveled another caster, I'd equip this ring, 5% xp is worth way more than any caster ring I could grab leveling). That's a LOT of time saved when you factor it out across that many toons.

I like this ring idea, things like this make the game more interesting. I don't see what the OP is complaining about, if he spends 10+ hours a day on this game like he claims he does he should have no problem getting the ring.

Any chance of something cool being added to first aid as well? At the moment there's... a lack of interesting things. Even the achievements are a bit lackluster.

You have like 10 minutes to be the FIRST person to fish up a shark to get the ring.

Time means nothing, it's all luck.

That's 1 part of the problem.

It seems likely that more than 4 people will be participating in that event each month. They were trying to get away from small amounts of people being able to experience content, not guaranteeing them rewards for it.
