So we get a 10 min cd instead of a 20 min cd on a pet we don't even use, gg

Honestly has much thought gone into this? Doomguard would be a better proposal

They forgot to put in the part about, "does not despawn the warlock's currently summoned demon."

Would it really be OP for this to happen?

A nice little 1min dps boost every 10 min.

We dont have any CDs to pop, this would be a good place to start.

Also, I can kill you with my brain.

Doomguard would make sense for demonology :P Maybe make people play the spec out of their own will.

I want to see more doom guards =[

This.

As long as the Infernal doesn't act like a DK's gargoyle, the ability will stay useless.

There has to be something else coming behind this change, or else it doesn't make any sense. I have never thought to myself, "I'd really like to use my infernal right now...Oh crap! it's on cooldown!"

I'm hopeful that this is a precursor to another change with the infernal, but if not this is a pretty "thanks, I guess..." change.

This wont happen. The reason is, this is how it would all go down.
3.3 UPDATE! - Infernal no longer despawns your current pet!
Forums:
-Warlocks
"Yay! Now we have a cooldown we can actually use to increase DPS for those "Push to the limit" situations!"
-Everyone else
"That's kind of cool. I wonder what it will be like in PvP."

Few days later.

The problem with lowering the Doomguard cooldown to ~10 min is there is a reasonable chance Affliction would just use the Doomguard all the time.

We want the temporary warlock demons to useful but not actually replace the core demons. An interesting idea for Cataclysm is for them not to replace the current demon. I have no idea if we'll do this or not, but we won't be able to do it for 3.3.

The only utility the infernal has is the landing stun, but thats even questionable considering it's cast time. It really shouldn't replace the current pet, especially considering how much the main pet means for dps.

That is true, but you lowered the cooldown on a pet you would probably never use in a raid environment.

For what it's worth, I think you guys managed to buff Affliction synergy with the Felhound to a degree that a 10 minute cooldown wouldn't entice a Warlock to switch out his pet for a temporary one. I think the idea has merit.

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure who he was responding to. While his statement is reasonable in regards to the doomguard I think most us are just sort of puzzled by the infernal change. Was it mainly because the cooldown on Army of the Dead was lowered so you figured you'd do the same for the Infernal?

That's fine and all and that's a good step foward. However, you cannot deny that summoning an infernal in the place of any other demons is a huge DPS loss in a raid settings since all three warlocks tree have such a huge synergy with their current pet: Felhunter for Affliction, Felguard for Demonology and the imp for destruction.

I don't know as well why you cannot do it for 3.3. I mean, I'm no programmer and all but wouldn't giving the infernal the same Insertwarlocksnamehere's guardian treatment be a fast and good solution ?

I think blizzard is done with long 20+ minute cooldowns for the most part. There may be execptions.
