... that doesn't work cross-realm too.

[Edit]:

I honestly cannot understand your question, but I would like to help if you'd restate it.

Why is Looking for Raid in 3.3 NOT going to be cross-realm?

It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Sure it does. Raids can't be cleared in an hour (most). Raids cannot be continued via initiations on the in-game calendar, because the in-game calendar is not cross-server. Therefor, many players will be locked to instances that they can't finish because the group was created within the battlegroup, and not only on your realm.

My theory (and that means "not blizzard's voice on it"), is... baby steps. Implementing a cross-realm LFG Raid system would premature, 5p's would come first, work out some kinks, and later possibly raids. I'm completely absolutely for pug raiding, though.

Instances are created on a separate instance server, NOT your realm server.

So anyone who was locked into that raid instance could go in and continue it.

This might work for short raids suck as ony/voa/os, but PuGing longer raids such as ulduar on YOUR server is hard enough, imagine how difficult it would be to get things done with players spread out from different servers, and how much of a pain it would be to contact them all and try to finish an uncompleted raid.

You landlubbers are tougher than I thought! I'll have to improvise!

You can just get everything through heroics since they keep bumping up the emblem types for some reason, so why should it work cross-server?

Fighting stupid, one post at a time.

If the system stays as it is now with lockouts, cross realm raids are going to be a pita. If you think people leave quickly in normal pugs, imagine when they are grouped with 9 or 24 complete strangers that they won't have to care if they piss off by leaving.

So raids will likely have a much harder time continuing and actually getting done, particularly in a timely manner.

Beyond that...how would it work with raid leaders and such? Say for example they implement the system they have set for 5 mans where everyone can vote to boot you. Say someone has to go afk 5 minutes to go to the bathroom and come back to find they have been booted by the impatient group. Doh, now they are saved for the week and are screwed?

Or say you join a group randomly for Ulduar and it turns out 7 of the 10 players are from the same realm/guild. An item you want drops...they warn you to pass on it or you will ba voted out of the raid. And then again, you are saved and sol for the week.

These potential issues don't matter for heroics because you don't get 'saved' from randoms...and heck even if you did, heroics don't matter all that much. So I think Bliz is going to have to come up with a way of removing weekly saves when it comes to cross-realm raids, but they may have to think long and hard about how to do that so players don't gear up ridicuously fast (like joining 5 diffferent fresh TOC 10 raids in one day for example).

Well, that's the entire point. Pugging raids like Ulduar is almost impossible on one server. With cross-server, it would be *easier* since there's a lot more people.....?

With cross-realm raids, if someone leaves, you replace them in 2 minutes...

You guys are missing the point *completely*.

You guys are 100% focused on trying to continue or finish a failed run.

I'm focused on *STARTING* the run in the first place. If there's not enough people to start the run on my realm in the first place, NO ONE gets to raid. At all.

Completely missing the point entirely.

Cross server raiding has an issue--long raids with raid IDs.

Completing Ulduar or even Naxx with a cross server PuG seems... difficult.

If a dungeon group falls apart after 1-2 bosses, it's not nearly as big of a deal as if a raid group falls apart after 5 bosses of Ulduar. If the group wants to continue it and somebody from another realm (who can't really contact you easily) beat you to it and cleared it with their friends, that would probably leave you a bit upset. This is just one example that came to me off the top of my head.

Sure, there could be ways to resolve this with a variety of rules, but we will see how things go for now. A lot of raids are able to happen once people are found so we mainly just want to make it easier to find people for now.

We know your secret, Clark Kent.

I don't post on my main for the same reason I don't visit nude beaches -- I wouldn't want to make anyone feel inadequate.

Least of all myself.

Take a look at what was posted by GC yesterday regarding the new loot rules for cross-realm dungeons:

Q u o t e:
Ultimately, our logic went like this: If a Holy paladin loses a great non-plate upgrade to another player, one out of five players might feel bad. If a Holy paladin rolls Need on every type of armor that drops, then four out of five players might have a bad experience. The jerk potential seemed worse than the lost-an-upgrade potential as far as whether or not players buy into using the new dungeon tool.

So basically, it's not without its faults, but Blizzard is still going forward with these rules because the system overall has much more advantages than disadvantages.

How is this any different than cross-realm raids?

I guarantee you that cross-realm raids will lead to more raids completed successfully (and happily) than ever before. The issue you brought up is a small one, just like the one GC mentioned, and holding back the advantages of the many, because of the small and few disadvantages that will rarely occur is quite silly, you must admit.

Say the raid breaks up after 4 bosses in Ulduar.

Everyone is now saved to that ID. Who owns the ID? Will they go back in LFG and state the raid is partially complete? What happens to the person who was saved but unable to go at that time--but can finish it if he/she finds enough people?

Raid IDs make this a rough scenario.
