Should be changed to 15 masks or something, not all 20 (unless they follow some of the the OP's solutions).

I like the idea of a certain gender/race combo dropping the corresponding mask in BGs.

I'm very curious -- does anyone actually have this completed? Is there an easy way to check this on wow-achievements.com or something?

Meanwhile I'm pissed off that I've had two masks from trick or treating now but no pet, and that I've lost the roll on the pet 3x on HH in over 20 kills. Because that nasty RNG achievement IS part of the meta. The masks are just lost bag space, unless the big achieve gives you a bag that they can all go in, and then only takes up one space.

I really doubt it. A lot of the masks weren't added until the last few days last year. The odds are really unlikely.

Since getting all of the masks is just another achievement and not something required for the meta-achievement, we are okay with this remaining as-is. Yes, it may take a couple years of doing the Hallow's End events to get it done but that just puts it along side things like Bloody Rare and Frostbitten.

I understand that. I wish in the future though you guys would add additional ways to at least get the "fun" items like the masks. Or at least, stop giving me nothing but lame candy corn and penny pouches in my treat bags! :P

Can you at least make it so that, when I have one mask (say, night elf female), I ~won't~ get another night elf female mask?

This is what kills me.

That would be awesome, tho I'm not sure how they would do it. I suppose they could always add some kind of quest giver that will exchange them (obviously with some kind of stigma that you can't re-exchange the one you just exchanged for :P)

Q u o t e:
I think this achievement - like a couple of others - illustrates that there isn't anybody working on the achievement team with a solid grasp of statistics.

To get all 20 masks you will need on average to find about 72 masks total - including on average 20 to find the last one. People who think they are close should realise that 17/20 is the halfway point, it takes about 36 masks to get to 17 and then a further 36 to finish out.

Masks are a 20% drop from the Treat Bag. I don't have data on how often you get Treat Bags from the hourly action but I don't believe it's over 50%.

So you are looking at at least 720 Trick or Treats to get this done with average luck. Even playing a fairly unhealthy 12 hours a day for the duration of the event you will only see 170ish ToT attempts. So it is upwards of 4 years to finally get this.

Your numbers are incorrect. I'm fairly confident in saying this, as a player who did this over multiple alts last year. I've also examined the armories of dozens of players who are near to completing the achievement.

People who went for this "hardcore" last year - the type of people who did log on once per hour when they were able to play, say for 8 to 12 hours per day - consistently got to about 16 masks out of twenty last year.

That is WITH four broken masks - last year, the draenai and blood elf masks were not available until the end of the event. When you see someone with 16/20 masks (from last year) you will almost always see that they are missing 2 to 4 of the masks that were not available for the majority of the season.

It's a solid two-year achievement, as implemented. Not 1 year, not 4 years. I'd guess that the major flaw in your assumption is the trick vs treat rate. It's probably not 50% - I would guess more like 75% treat, 25% trick. I'll try to track it over the holiday to get a more solid number (or find I'm wrong and it is 50%).

I'm also positive that your number on the masks is wrong. It's a 1.3% drop rate on each mask - 26% drop rate for any of the 20 masks. That's a major difference from 20%. This is, again, a throwback to the four broken masks from last year - you looked at bad data that didn't have a real drop rate for 4 out of twenty masks.

Edit - I wanted to point out that you can also get masks from the daily, as another source you didn't consider (albeit a smaller source than trick-or-treat bags). Crudely wrapped gift is the container name. 1% chance on each mask, it looks like.

Come on, Bornakk, this is nothing like Bloody Rare or Frostbitten. I have both of those, and they come about due to a little bit of luck and a whole lot of time and persistence. The number of results that can come about from talking to an innkeeper combined with the one hour debuff and the limited duration of Hallow's End makes this one more of an overwhelming distraction for achievement hounds rather than something to work at.

I've been slowly farming Dire Maul for Shendra'lar rep and I've been doing the Troll Patrol daily every day I can get on here for over six months now trying to get that trinket- those are things that you work toward on your own time. Since Hallow's End has a limited duration, you are really under the gun if you want to work toward gathering all these masks. Every hour you need to drop what you're doing and run back to an innkeeper, and I'm sure you're aware that many of us can only get on for a few hours a day due to work/school/family/etc. I'm not exactly focused on this achievement, but I think that the comparison to the rares is not justified.
