Don't raid.

I learned early on after MC that raiding is for chumps.

I'm much happier now.

easy yes, time consuming and monotonous, also yes. though there are good parts that keep me playing, but the word "earn" now means "spend time doing something boring" a lot of the time.

Aside from the addiction jokes and what have you, i would like to hear others insight on the pace this game has as of late.

What i mostly am referring to is Gear. With conquest farming, raiding, chains, etc it always feels like there are never enough, and that you're never finished, you're "falling behind" the others if you will.

It feels almost like if you cant play on a daily basis to grind and build your character you just wont make it in this "world". With every patch the gap widens and the standards of other players are risen. (also related to GS topics and other topics) If you cant put in a certain amount of time daily, your of banished to exile and can't play with everyone else, simply because you aren't accepted.

WoW literally feels more like a job, and not the inviting game it was of old.

Q u o t e:

I'd hope it wouldn't feel that way for you. I have taken breaks from the game before, come back, and not felt like I'm behind some curve. I suppose it's all a matter of what you want to accomplish in the game. If I have time to spare and logging in to play World of Warcraft sounds like fun, I will. Sometimes that will be to level an alt, sometimes it will be to do some dailies or finish some zones on my level 80's. At times I'll run Heroics with friends or pick-up groups since the time commitment for each individual dungeon isn't much.

I'm fortunate enough to have recently found a casual raiding guild, so there is some scheduled play involved. Even at that though, we have enough members that I wouldn't be faulted for declining a raid invitation.

If I'm going to sit at my computer to play, I want to have fun. There are times where it may feel a little tedious if we're trying to learn a particular encounter, but those are times when I'm essentially hanging out with good people. Rather than chatting through AIM, I'm chatting in the game or over a voice system.

Again, it depends on what you want to get out of the game, but in the end it's all meant to be fun. Once you step out the door of your home it doesn't matter what gear your character has. What does matter is if you spent time playing the game, you enjoyed that time.

Posting on the forums on the other hand... it kind of feels like a job. :p

You have to remember. Your a blizz employee. People will bend over backwards just so you can be in their raid. People like me with this uber freash 80 (got there last night) I'd have a really hard time just getting into reg ToC even tho I pull 1300 DPS with my crap gear

You are entitled to your opinion. However, you need a fresh perspective on your opinion. From what I've quoted, you appear to worry far too much about what everyone else is doing, and what everyone else will think.

I've had this dk since woltk came out. Check my gear and achievements. (sucks right?) I'm working on her at my pace. I could care less if she's "keeping up" with everyone else.

Keeping up with "the joneses" in mmorpgs will just make you feel as if you have a second job. It's not worth it. Either you want a second job, or you don't. Either you are insanely into gear and that's what does it for you,or you aren't.

Maybe you should relax a bit, work on it in bits and pieces. Do what you find fun first. You're going to end up in the same place as everyone else. Why does it matter when it happens?

That's assuming I'm telling everyone I'm a Blizzard employee. I do play with a few other employees, but beyond that my identity isn't known. I'm judged by my gear and skill just like anyone else. :)

I don't play for gear. I don't raid much either so there's really not much pressure to commit too much time to the game.

I play for fun.

My husband and I took 4 months off when Ulduar came out because if we tried another all achievement run, we would have wanted to gouge our eyes out. We're now 2 tiers behind, and for some reason, we're okay with that. I think once you accept you'll never be the best of the best, and that being the ABSOLUTE best is a major time sink that never has a end, then the pressure is off. The guild we joined is very casual compared to what we're used to, and it makes a huge difference in how we feel about the game.

can you imagine if they did go around telling people they were blizz employees?

it would be a non-stop stream of tells from people saying this and that, asking for freebies, telling them to fix their class, and on and on and on and it would never end.

i dont think anyone would really want that while they were trying to play.

/agreed.

As with anything at life, being the absolute best, is a temporary thing and very stressful, it's alot more healthy to just be the best you can be.

I took 3 months off WoW to travel in Australia. Some time after I came back, I started playing again and felt like it was a job because I had to do dailies. When i realized that, I stopped playing for a week. If I felt that I couldn't go a week without playing the game, then I would uninstall the game completely; I don't feel it's good to be that addicted to the game.

I do sort of agree with this. In WotLK it almost seems like content is coming out too fast, if you can imagine it.

One thing I do miss about Vanilla WoW is that you could get a set of gear, say the Dungeon 1/"Tier 0" set or the blue quality PvP set or even the T1 set and that set would last you. You would get the occasional upgrade, but there was no feeling of needing to constantly upgrade your entire set, lest you fall behind everyone else. I kinda liked that.

I have picked up playing this game again not quite two months ago, and before that, I hadn't played in two years. When I picked up playing the game again, leveling from 70-80 I didn't feel like I was behind at all. In fact, in less than two months here on WotLk, I'm geared in all epics, got my epic flyer (didn't before, and I had started with lik 150g), and have my secondary spec which is decently geared. I still don't "feel behind" and it hasn't been a chore to come this far. It's actually been an enjoyable experience. I don't feel like it's been a job at all. i am really pleased with the way WotLK turned out.
