Seems like every single caster has/needs the increase from 150% crits to 200%.

The newest PTR shows warlock pets are getting this modifier too. Do you think this will just become a baseline thing in Cataclysm?

I understand that heals might need to stay at 150%.

PvP specs grab these kinds of talents, though. The only thing it seems to stop is maybe an arcane mage from having their fire spells crit for double.

Coming from a DK who gets their 2x spell crit modifier for free, this is kinda funny.

It'd probably be a lot funnier if it hadn't flown straight over your head.

edit;

And btw Comm, arcane mages don't have any 200% crit spell modifier. They only go up to 175%. That's pretty much the only spec it'd affect as a buff.

Ignite would need to be nerfed; fire mages with just Ignite crit for 210%, so changing Ignite from 40% to 10% would leave that the same And it'd ruin FFB specs unless you screwed with the talents something fierce, but FFB is pretty dead in the water anyway.

I was just thinking about that today. Does any other melee have a 200% crit...untalented at that?

x2 damage crits is something that should have been made baseline long long ago.... but the only class that is realy screwed over by having it in talent form is Warlocks. Pretty much all Warlocks are chained to 15pts Destro for all PVE specs and most PVP ones too.

The only other melee that uses spells and doesn't have built in compensation would be enhance shaman. They get theirs from the elemental tree.

Ret has it built into their Seal/Judgment and I believe Exorcism crits for double damage.

All Physical attacks are 2x modifiers. All Spells (besides DK and i believe ret judgements) are 1.5 modifers. All spells must be increased via talents to be brought up to 1.75 - 2.00 modifiers. Its not just warlocks that need to spend talent points.

2. Remove Fear Entirely; I would favor it if they not only removed fear from PvP, but all other "loss of control" moves along with it. Meaning, no more fears, roots, snares, stuns or poly.

Maybe it's to stop healers from being remotely dangerous with their damaging spells?

One of the points of casters talenting into 200% crits is to make sure they do more damage than other specs of the same class.

(Hopefully I don't need to repeat "one of" several dozen times over the next few months.)

Think of the PVP implications of not having the change. As you reach the resil cap, non talented spell crits approach and reach the damage of non critical strikes.

My only issue is that as an enh shaman it forces us into elemental and doesn't give us ANY flexability with our spec =(

I play a shaman because I'm a masochist

Would it be impossible to make the base crit modifier based on class rather than a blanket mechanic? I can count several classes in which a 200% modifier talent is mandatory in EVERY DPS build.

It's true of pretty much every caster class, but GC had a very good point.

One of the purposes is so (for example) a Fire mage casting Fire spells is more of a threat than a Frost mage casting Fire spells.

If it's actually an issue for your class (for example, enh shaman having no flexibility in your talent points), you should bring that up as specifically an issue for your class, and it may well get altered. (Though in the case of shaman, the most likely solution would be to tack it onto Maelstrom Weapon and put Elemental Fury deeper in the ele tree so you can't get both MW and it; thanks to resto shamans.)

Well it would seem silly speccing into resto, wouldn't it?
