I don't think blizzard is lying. But I do think it's odd we have faction changes before race changes. The poster above gave a good example about the moon, though not in a way he may have intended.

I see a faction change as more difficult than a race change; so the faction change is going to the moon. The race changes seems like it would be easier; so ti would be flying across the states.

Basically Blizzard had gone to the moon before it could fly an airplane.

My guess is that Blizzard is fully capable of doing a race change now, but the service will cost less than a faction change. Therefore Blizzard wants people to consider doing a faction change if they are unhappy with their current race.

This is of course assuming that race changes are cheaper then faction changes, which I think they will be.

I think what everyone fails to understand here is the OP was pointing out that when you "faction change" you are actually "race changing".

It seems very obvious, but I'm stunned that so many of you can't understand that. You are going from a, for example, gnome to an undead. A CHANGE OF YOUR RACE!

It currently exists and is active. I think his question/statement was "what makes it so much more difficult to change race from same faction when you can change race cross faction?"

Seems like it would be easier. Maybe that uppity green text will reply once he's back from his shower.

Perhaps because they want to release it with the expansion so you can also change to one of the new race/class combos?

We're still working on it. We want to make sure the conversions are as smooth as possible and the infrastructure will support such changes, as is the case with the faction change service. Contrary to the original poster's claims, the conversion tables for changing races within one's own faction are completely different from the faction change service. This requires separate development time. We're also busy ensuring our Battle.net account service is fully fleshed out to support the entirety of the World of Warcraft population as well as these paid services.

The only thing better than offering a service people want is making sure that service works when people want it. ;)
