EDIT: ^ that guy beat me to it. D:

Q u o t e:

You think they are burrowing but really they are just moving positions while casting a spell on you that makes you think they are burrowing. Problem solved.

'A wizard did it' would've been more viable.

they shrink themselves to the size of nanobots and burrow around through your mind, then they burst from the ground like a massive infestation.

Q u o t e:
There are several reasons for this.

First of all, the floor is made out of magic wood. If you did the quests from the goblins to collect the wood (while the building was under construction), you would know this. Note that the worms burrow around and pop up, yet the floor is never left damaged. It takes Frostmourne to do that.

Second of all, there is no rock. It's build on ice. The worms were burrowing around in that.

So, here's the full story:

There was a nice, thick foundation of ice.

Icehowl slammed his head against the (magic wood) walls a bunch of times, alerting the Nerubians. They called up Arthas and told him about the ruckus.

Then, that idiot gnome went and summoned Lord Jaraxxus who, what do you know...used four different fire spells...and summoned infernals, who also used fire spells. Guess what happened when you didn't get rid of Incinerate Flesh in time? That's right. All that fire didn't damage the magic wood, but it did heat it up. The ice started to melt.

Meanwhile, the Lich King went to check out his buddy Anub'Arak in Azjol'Nerub, and found him dead again, this time from a serious apostrophe infection. He sighed and cast "Raise Giant Nerubian King As Undead". Again.

Then you fought the Faction Champions. They brought their WARLOCK, didn't they? He cast HELLFIRE, didn't he? Again, gnome warlocks are idiots. More melting.

It also took you several attempts, didn't it? Not only was that even more melting, but it gave Anub'arak and the Lich King time to walk over and chat and reminisce about the same trip they made together at the end of Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne.

Oh, then you got to laugh at the Twins. Pushovers, right? Yeah, check your combat logs. Guess what? There's no such thing as "Light" damage. No. It's FIRE DAMAGE!! That was it. After that fight, all the ice was melted.

All the Lich King had to do was to port in and poke Frostmourne at the floor.

I've saved the best for last. How do I know this is all true?

You know that lake that you fall into that breaks your fall and saves you from being splattered all over? Why is there liquid water there when, this far north, everything else is frozen? That's right. It's made of all the ice that you melted during your fights up above. That's your incontrovertible evidence, and it explains the whole burrowing worm mystery, right there.

(Note: Kobold fire puddles from Gormok the Impaler aren't strong enough to melt any ice except on Heroic mode.)

Love the post, but you do know that when WE fight the Champs its a stupid Orc warlock that hellfires all over the place, not a gnome, right? :-P

I just want to tell you good luck, we're all counting on you.

I was going to say, "Did you look at the clock before you started all the wipes on faction champions?"

Technically there was a week between each fight so it left plenty of time to dig.

These are not the Worms you are looking for...

Worms with uber jedi mind trick skills, now that is very scary!

well, since azjol'nerub stretches from dragonblight to icecrown, it's not a massive stretch of the imagination to assume it reaches all the way to The collosseum.

The better question is, how can the cavern extend as far as it does, when it is already on the edge of the cliff?

its a machine jerk, who said it actually tunneled all the way down it just ports you there. If a tabard or stone can do it so can a mole machine.

Well the Jormungar do have a lot of feelers, so it's not entire implausible that they grip the underside of the floor and skitter along it.

This also likely contributed to the instability of said floor for Arthas to blow it up with.

I always figured it was always a fairly thick floor, but the combined efforts of; the jormungar and Icehowl digging and slamming around, Jaraxxus weakening it with volcanoes, the faction champs all leaping down from the stands at once, the twins pummeling it with shadow/light explosions, and finally the Lich King's big shockwave for the poor floor to finally give.

Life is not a practice, always play to win.

Q u o t e:
In Trial of the Crusader, the ground floor is broken by the Lich King in the last phase of the raid. This floor is relatively thin, only a few feet deep. This raises the question, how were the two jormungar able to tunnel completely into the ground? Am I missing some key detail, or is that fact of tunneling depth ignored by blizzard?

See, they're crawling on the ceiling with their little arms. Which is why they're so made because they can't reach their mouths to eat their sammiches.
