Q u o t e:
ITT, people will complain about absolutely anything blizzard puts in a raid that inconveniences them.

Also it works lore-wise.

Yea, adding a mechanic that does 25 combat log calculations per second is an awesome idea. It's not like ToC lags or anything.

if the aura works how we expect it to, it will go up and up as you approach the throne room.

it may become anubarak-like as you approach Arthas.

it's not a bad mechanic. at least not yet. we need to know more before we whine.

6/6 swp. !~ Before 3.0. ~!

Just because you're unique, doesn't mean you're useful.

Reality check.

If it actually is 1% of your health per 3 seconds, that's about 200 per tick for the average nontank (67 per second). Slightly more on average.

Your OOC regen is about 15 to 60 per second, depending on class / gear.

In raid gear, your OOC regen will not counteract the damage dealt to you to the point of trivializing it. It will, however, take about 6.75 minutes to kill non-tanks at full health out of combat. That does mean taking AFKs in shifts as a healer (which is not reasonable).

However - there's another option. Take off your gear before you AFK. It'll probably bring you to around 10k health. That's down to about 33 damage per second from the aura. Many classes WILL be able to ooc regen more than that. For the lowest regen numbers, it extends your time-to-die while AFK to 9 minutes.

If they're going to implement something dumb like this, then they should implement a few areas where you don't suffer from it as well and can AFK safely. Special fires throughout the dungeon with small safe areas around them, for instance. I don't mind healing this for trash, or for boss fights, but there's no reason to make me babysit every person who goes AFK for more than a few minutes, and prevent me from ever taking a break for any significant length of time.

Interesting thought, though - does dampen magic work on the damage from the aura?

Posts in the PTR forum suggest that it's in combat only. Wording of the tooltip suggests it's an aura that eminates from hostiles; stay away from them (out of combat) and you're fine. I think.

<--- Won't be bothered by it

Ya know, unless it starts ticking for 3k when you get close to Arthas. But that would be unreasonable. It'd be like healing a boss fight while you're just standing there. That, on top of Arthas smacking everyone around, wouldn't be possible for your average healer.

If it's not that, then it's probably just there to keep the legions of single players from holding instances open, stressing the server out. Kind of like what happened with Ulduar testing.

Yes, god forbid that you must be above average to defeat the LICH KING.

I think this is a great idea. It generates as much server lag as a healing stream totem. If you're going to AFK don't hide from your healers. If you're a healer ##%@@ing about it, don't heal anyone too stupid to click the mage table and get food.

"WHAAAT?!?! ONE PERCENT? OF MY HEALTH?!?!11"

Hilarious.

Ya, we already don't have issues with half our raid disconnecting when things start getting spammed in raid and hundreds of messages are being spammed constantly from buffs, trying to overwrite each other.

Not everyone has a top of the line computer in every raid group and adding to the massive variable spam every second isn't going to help the buffers any.

I personally don't have this problem but a lot of my raid does, and it's irritating.

Ignorance can be solved with a book. Stupidity requires a shotgun and a shovel.

I think there needs to be the emote /tinfoilhat for whenever GC says anything about balance.

Game Developers Guidebook to Pissing Off Your Players

Section III. Healers

Part 43a) Design a playing environment such that your healers must heal constantly for the entire duration of their playtime in this environment.

Oh yes, thank you Blizzard, this looks like a fun and innovative gameplay mechanic.

This.

Yeah, constantly... if your healers are only doing 200 hps with constant healing then you should probably not head to Icecrown Citadel. In fact, you should tell your healers to level up to 80. It takes ONE HEALER every FIVE MINUTES to stop this. Or, you know, people with food in their bags.

Judging by the forums, I would say so!

This is a buff to mages guys - now people need to eat more food so healers can pee!

Q u o t e:
Any Reason? Is it just an annoyance? It isn't gonna kill anyone in combat while raid healers are around. So just don't AFK for 5 minutes 3 seconds? Sunwell Radiance was there for a reason, whether we liked it or not. This I am not sure.

It's a bug. We'll get it fixed.
