if you played a crap-load of, say, Team Fortress or Counter-strike like I did (Dust maps ftw!) key-binding and mouse-moving is pretty natural.

For people pretty new to gaming in general (or at least unfamiliar with computer FPS games)? Yeah, I can see the desire to point and click and keyboard turn.

@Teroch - From your Armory statistics tab, Player V Player.

Duels won: 4
Duels lost: 12

Now, you were saying?

edit: quote messed up,pointed direction @the clicking mage

That's odd, I don't even think I've dueled more than 3 times, against the same person... and yes they beat me 2 out of 3 times. That must include the Jousting Duels... I REALLY suck at those lol.

But at the very least, I'm not afraid to post on my main :P

Q u o t e:

It just depends on the situation and the timing needed. I generally keep my instants within the keybind realm so I can use them quickly. For things that take longer or things I don't use a lot, clicking is fine. I do have my eye on a new mouse that I want though. I wouldn't mind having some keybinds a bit closer at hand there. ;)

/off topic

If you're talking about the Steel Series Mouse made for WoW, then let me just say, that while it's helped me with some of the keybinds, overall, it's a little frustrating.

You're not really writing macros into the buttons but attaching them to keybinds already in the game.

For example, the default for C is the Character Screen. I can rebind that key to say, Flare. Now with the software for the WoW mouse, I can assign "Open Character Screen" to a Key. There it's bound..if I ever rebind the C key to something else, it will be that way on my mouse.

However...say the user creates a custom macro like "/target focus" or something. The game has no default keybind for that so the software from Steel Series requires you to make a macro. You make that macro and what does it do? It types the macro command into your chat window every time you hit it. (Alternatively you can make a macro in game, rebind an ingame keybind and then assign it to a button through the Mouse software).

Press that "macro" on your mouse and it's typing /target focus over and over.

WoW mouse is ok. But it will be much better if Steel Series every hires someone to make better software. (Don't get me started on the errors you get when you try to load your profile from the WoW Armory). What bummed me out the most on that WoW Mouse is that I couldn't turn one of the buttons into the Shift key, or the Control key.

Well back on topic...

Overall, Clicking vs Keybinding, I think for a lot of people it will always be a mixture. I strafe with my keys, turn with my mouse and have a lot of things Keybound, but I still click some things simply because I'm not a pianist. I haven't used the default UI in a long time due to being a hunter and having a buttload of Keybinds. Not too mention, I use the addon Macaroon because it helps with writing macros and doing keybinds on the fly (every button is essentially a macro) and expands the default set of macros. My wife on the other hand uses almost no macros, no addons (including thinking that healbot is for lazy people), clicks everything, turns with her keys and still manages to top the healing meters and do very well.

Personal preference I suppose. If you're a clicker looking to become a keybinder...then you can do it. I clicked fully. I started out by changing things slowly. Megatf had the best advice. He said to "do one keybind at a time, get used to it and then do another." Get rid of left and right turn and change that to left and right strafe. It's hard to change, i used to run with my arrow keys. Lol, if you have to unbind those keys so they don't work.

It's a pita to retrain your muscle memory, but it can be done...

(holy crap this is too long)

tldr ~ WoW Mouse 2 out of 4 stars only because the software is kinda bogus

Personal Preference rules...clickers can be just as effective as keybinders depending on the situation.

well it would be right if keyboard turning was as fast as mouse turning. that is usually what this is all about.

But if I use my mouse to turn, then how do I click rend?

I used to spend (probably) hours working on config files for FPS play including clan call outs etc. Things have become much more intuitive since then including having wasd as a default directional in many games now. But, it's true. Those who have a history of computer FPS play are more used to that style of movement. It doesn't translate exactly with MMOs but it's close. For those new to this style of gameplay, there is a learning curve, but hopefully, we continue to make that learning curve not so steep as to turn them off of giving it all a shot.

These sorts of conversations are always interesting, but keep in mind harassing or defamatory language towards others isn't necessary in the least. If you want to convince others that your way is better, the best way is to give them the tools to find out for themselves. Sharing your personal experiences is just that tool.

The isssue I see here is that people are arguing about two different situations. There is PVE and PVP, both have a better "ideal" way to use the keyboard/mouse.

For:

PVE-I keyboard turn and click my spells(Ret Pally). This lets me see when my cooldown is up and which spell is next in my FCFS rotation. I shave valuable seconds off my time doing this and it maximizes my DPS.

PVP-I turn and use some keybinds (I only need to use my face anyways :P). This lets me react to the other players as necessary.

I think the elitest for keybinding need to look at what class/situation the player is in and decide if they are really going to get any better by playing the game the way someone else wants them to.

P.S. Sorry if there is spelling grammer mistakes I had to be at work at 3 this morning.

Dueled a resto shaman once way back when OS was still pretty tough, and it took us like 10 minutes to finish.

I spend about 80% of my time as holy, so yeah, dueling is not something I do often either.

I agree with this. I'm an old lady. When I was growing up we had Pong. In my 20s I played the Donkey Kong trilogy on SNES. I've never played an FPS or any other game where I needed quick reflexes. Other "PC games" I've played include Minesweeper and Free Cell.

So when I first tried mouse turning in WoW, it felt like the most awkward thing in the world. It literally took me weeks to get used to. But I'm so glad I stuck it out.

This is one reason I dislike vehicle quests - I like to strafe or use the Q and E keys to move sideways, and the entire vehicle interface seems to not work well with it. For example, when I joust, I always seem to face the wrong way, and if I try to strafe on a Siege Engine during Flame Leviathan, nothing happens.

Noticed most clickers that post have 0 ratings and low hks. Try keybinding you might actually like PvP and don't avoid it because you suck or think you do.

PVP is a totally different animal though.

Even the ToC 'pvp' Faction Champions fight is totally unique in its execution.

i.e. last night, both our tanks swapped into their DPS specs and I dispelled more than I healed, being that we didn't have a priest to lean on.

I know it's not a true PVP fight, and I could use examples from BGs (or when I arena'd briefly in TBC) but clicking in PVE is far more tolerable than PVP for sure. PVP is just so unforgivable and unpredictable.

Ok... This game is designed to be fun. You can play as you like. You also should play as you like. If that involves clicking ... do so.... if that involves key binding do that. do wtf makes you happy. Last time i checked i do not play this game to make a raid leader happy.

As long as the job gets done and you can do it. Who cares how you play? I mean seriously

Also to kick someone from your raid based off the fact "you think" they click is childish and prejudice. You as a person need to step back and take a look at yourself. Do you really hate someone based off of how they play a game? seriously.... You might want to consider not listening to the Cure while !**!!@**%ing and cutting yourself.

as long as the job gets done who the !@%% cares how you get there.

also Latency figures into this argument to.... If your latency is garbage then your dps/heals/tanking will suffer. Latency is way more important than if you click or not.
