I have done just that. Well, not the gearscore part. They were ranting about gearscore in Trade one night and I got pissed off. I then made a group and demanded that only DPS in full blues need apply. Even if the fights were slow I had fun and geared up 2 new dpsers along the way.

A holy paladin healer in my guild and I actually do that. We spend time on the weekends and charge people to essentially be run through heroics. 100g a head, we get all items they don't use. Between a tank who can effectively take 0 damage, and a healer who can output enough love to make a crack baby OD, 3 crappy dps aren't exactly a problem to carry.

We do it mostly for the lols, but also because conquest badges are a decent source of income when we're bored.

I thought it was general knowledge that anyone who put any stock at all in gearscore was a flaming retard. Why have there been so many forum posts about it recently?


I've never been turned down from a group for low gearscore, but if I was, I'd count my blessings; I found out that the RL was a dumbass without even having to join the group.

I have turned people down for gearscores before. In almost every case I have been right. In the other cases, I can live with myself knowing that I sufficiently pissed someone off.

Gearscore is not the be-all-end-all. But I can tell you this... Someone with a 4500+ gearscore is almost always going to put out more dps than someone with > 4000. That's why people use it.

Yes, my 3300 gearscore DK can pump out more DPS than most scrubs with 4k. But even with that, I wouldn't cry over being kicked out of a group because I didn't meet the gearscore expectations. I would laugh and go do something else... Why, because it's my damn alt and I use him for fun.
