The only additional risk is that someone only needs to know your email address to try and guess your password, rather than some obscure WoW account name.
But if you choose a password that isn't horribly easy to guess, you'll be fine. And you can associate it with an email address that nobody knows and that you don't use.

It's only dangerous if you can't use basic software like virus scanners or believe some anonymous person in Asia wants to give you free mounts for no reason at all.

I switched to battle.net when the battle bots came out.
I have NEVER had any issues with it.. The stuff you have heard is from a very limited number of people that threw fits about something they did not understand.
There is nothing wrong with it.
Yes people, Barney and the Teletubbies lied to you.
You can't tell you're on the short bus if you ride near the front.

the day B.net conversion came out I switched over to it. I think the only problem I have ever encountered was it once didn't let me (or other B.net users) log in for like 1 hour or so. However some times it also let me log in when other people (non-B.net users) couldn't.
All in all, it's fine. People just don't like change.

Nah, battle.net accounts in the past have had unique issues logging into wow due to the separate auth. system it used (I believe) and it having its own problems, but those went away. It's good now, though I'd recommend keeping the email address you use for it separate, and being more careful since it's one login/pw for all your blizzard games.
One thing that's not a rumour is that people have reported having their accounts stolen and merged with a b.net account (since they hadn't already) as an extra measure of preventing people from getting their account back. Obviously it doesn't stop it, but it slows things down. But that's more of a reason to merge, I guess.
