Am I reading this correctly? They are implementing cross-server grouping for heroics?

Am I the ONLY one not happy about this?

I've watched the community of WoW deteriorate since launch, first with Battlegrounds ridding world PvP. Then we had cross-server Battlegrounds, ruining any sense of personal PvP. And now we are getting cross-server heroics, ruining ANY feeling of local community we have left.

I enjoy playing with other players, obviously. But this is almost too much I think. I will never know who is going to be good in a group, who is going to lock me out of the instance by leaving early.

I understand the reasoning for this, it's to fix wait times due to server imbalances. Is this REALLY the best method, however?

Why don't we just merge all the servers together, ala Guild Wars style. Everything can be instanced. Would work just the same as what we're heading towards.

yea i think its kinda stupid as well, no sense in having multiple servers if everything is intertwined besides questing. might as well make one huge a$$ server.

You're free to not go out of server for heroics.

For the rest of us who do not personally and emotionally bond with each and every one of our group members during the heroic daily, we can utilize cross-server LFG.

That works for Guild Wars because they have a tiny player base accessing one data center.

World of Warcraft has many, many times more players accessing 4 different data centers in 4 different cities in just the United States alone.

Because the realms are in several datacenters spread across the country. Lag would be horrific.

Because the realms really do have population caps. That protect us from having an unplayable game.

There's a lot of reasons.

You retards complaining about cross-server grouping .. could, I don't know ... continue looking for people in your trade and LFG, and not get people off your server?

Just an idea.

Nonono, you guys missed the point. I was being sarcastic about this. You can't really have thought I was serious about this, especially with what I said prior.

The problem is the WoW population is so damn focused on getting into a heroic and getting out with their emblems, nobody will be looking for local groups anymore, forcing everyone into these cross-server shenanigans.

You mean most of the WoW population runs dungeons for the purposes of running dungeons, and a tool that will cut down the time required to complete said task will be well-received and liked in the community?

UNPOSSIBLE!

If I want to do heroics with friends, I still can. If I want to group with random bad PUGs, I won't care whether they are from my own server or a different server. I'm really excited about this feature.

So everybody will be forced into cross-realm LFG because nobody wants to do local groups?

I'm not saying that its a good idea, but this is certainly possible. Are you aware of the Guild Wars implementation of this? Basically, each zone has several different instances that separate the population onto different machines. You can switch freely though which makes grouping with friends possible.

Again, I don't personally like the way Guild Wars works, but its not enough to discount it because it would cause lag.

*sigh* I suppose my point is lost on most. You guys are all just like the Oracles, concerned only with shinies and that is it.

I'm saddened that most of you weren't around during the old Ultima Online days, where community actually meant something.

Lag is your mortal enemy in an online game. Lag has a higher kill count than any non-elite mob in WoW, except maybe murlocs. Lets not willingly add lag.

It still does, to the people who care.

Now I ride with the mocking and friendly ghouls on the night-wind, and play by day amongst the catacombs.... I know that light is not for me.

The community has been dead, where have you been?

The only thing that hasn't changed over the years is knowing the terrible guilds to avoid pugging their members. This is what will be lost.

Fear not my comrade! For I understand your point with all sincerity. One of the major points of an MMO to me is the fact that you are in a fantasy world crafted of other people, but if those people are as unpredictable and here and gone as they will be in LFG, then your server goes from a community to being a big waiting room.

Nothing more than a lobby as you wait to join a group composed of players you'll never meet again. Who will most likely roll need on everything, because you'll never met them again.

However, the process of kicking a ninja and inviting a new member will also be less painful.
