0. Calculations on 2.3 mace spec nerf inside! 09/28/2007 06:06:35 AM PDT
The original buffed 5/5 mace spec was 5ppm and 2 rage. Shortly afterwards, Blizzard decided to reduce the proc rate to one-third and triple the rage gained to maintain the same amount over time. So the current proc rate is 1.67ppm with 6 rage.
Assuming the devs want to maintain the same amount of rage provided by the spec, we can extrapolate what the new mace proc rate will be given that they have told us that 5/5 mace spec will return 7 rage in the upcoming 2.3 patch.
Using the original numbers as reference, it appears rage will be multiplied by 3.5. Dividing this into 5ppm gives us the new proc rate: 1.43ppm with 7 rage.
Currently the proc chance of a 3.8spd mace is (1.67ppm x 3.8spd)/60sec = 10.6% chance per swing.
The new rate proc rate will be (1.43ppm x 3.8spd)/60sec = 9.1% chance per swing.
We are looking at a 1.5% chance reduction on a slow mace like Stormherald (not including the proc from the weapon). Remember, these numbers are true only if the Devs do not intend to change the amount of rage mace spec generates over time.
Hmm...I had given that passing thought as well, but hadn't done the math. 1.5% less basically means that DT and SH will now proc a stun (either via the spec or the weapon proc) about as much as the arena maces do now, correct (or roughly correct)?
I suppose that's not that bad. I still want to try out swords and see how I feel about it, but I suppose I'll just grab the arena sword and keep blacksmithing until I feel out what works better for me.

If this is the case i have thought of the same theory. If the numbers come out to this im going to smakc my self for saying i dont want herald. But ive seen some devastating warriors in pvp in 2v2 3v3 and 5v5 that are sword so....its not the weapon its the wielder
Thank you for the math break down, I have never seen it layed out before. Thats really helpful and interesting. In any case i hope your guess work is right, 1.5% doesnt seem so bad.
