I think it was talked about a while ago, like before or right after 3.2 came out that the Plan was to have Pets scale from all of their master's Stats.

What is the current state of this and what are the chances we see this in 3.3?

Thanks!

Been wondering this myself.

Think what was mentioned was something along the lines of 100% scaling with the master, but not allowing it to get raid buffed, so that the pet scaling was linear instead of it suddenly shooting way up with double dipping raid buffs. This would include raid encounter unique buffs that would modify your dmg by a certain % being allowed to directly affect your pet too ( ie: Thaddius, Hodir, Twin Valks, etc).

Wondering if this is still the plan, just a pleasant rumor, or if something has changed.

From some comment GC made a while ago, it apparently takes a good chunk of work to implement each stat.

I guess we probably won't see it till 4.0.

And if that is the case I'd be fine with it.

I just don't want it to fade away unnoticed and get swept under the rug like so many other plans.

I'd be pretty surprised if Haste or Crit (one, not both) didn't make it into 3.3. I think they just aren't ready to release it for testing yet.

I'd also be pretty surprised if they finished both for this patch, though.

Like he said with haste and DoT's, the scaling may come in the form of a glyph. If it works really well, they'll make it baseline.

I think glyphs are technically and easier way for them to implement otherwise difficult changes, so they can do them more quickly. I actually like the idea of using glyphs to quickly get a change into the game and then possibly making it baseline if it turns out very well.

Wrong Thread, Try again later.

And no, Pet scaling will not come in the form of a Glyph, it is already in game, now they just need to expand on it.

This is a long overdue and much needed change. They also need to make the master's buffs (including encounter specific buffs like shadow crash, storm power, etc.) transfer to pets and not allow pets to be buffed from other classes as they discussed during Blizzcon. This way if a player or his pet gets rezzed during an encounter, he's not gimped compared to non-pet classes.

That's precisely what makes it such a big job and why it's taking so long. Note that they've already done exactly this with Pet Hit: your pet's hit chance against a target is based directly on your hit chance against that target, and is unaffected by buffs to the pet or debuffs to the target.

Speaking of, last I heard, there was still a bug with +hit transferrence to pets where it always rounds down. Meaning 8.96% player hit translates to 8% pet hit, and no expertise cap.

I half suspect the difficulty is more getting the balance right rather than coding issues as such, but then what do I now...

For hunters you have Spell power too, although it scales with RAP. This illustrates some of the problems that can come up: If you have spell power scale directly hunters will have gimped pet spell abilities, but if you keep them scaling like they do now pets will lose out on incidental spell power buffs floating about, which they can benefit from now (like moonkin aura, or so I believe). The correct solution is probably to have all these abilities use RAP for scaling directly, but that would mean changing a whole stack of spell-rank co-efficients.

Best case scenario is if EVERYTHING scales, but with the cower change I doubt if we will see dodge and parry for hunters, which is a pity imo, if not for right now then for later applications. If the plan is to drop all pet buffs, this needs to happen.

It is a complicated problem though I reckon.

I think the best way to allow pets to prevent double dipping on raid buffs is to change pet scaling so that raid buffs on the master do not affect the pet, only the masters self buffs ie Fel armor, Aspect of the Dragonhawk, and demonic knowledge. Once this is done, pets should receive 100% of the master's crit, haste, and armor pen rating, and possibly even improve stamina scaling to 100% due to the loss of double dipping fort and kings buffs. If pet damage becomes too high, then reduce pet scaling with attack power and spellpower. Pet talents like empowered imp may need to be rebalanced.

It's hardly game-breaking, but it would be nice if the change to pet buffs (pets are un-buffable but benefit from all the master's buffs) happened as well. It would help pet scaling AND eliminate the tedious need to ask for individual buffs on your pet because he missed something (e.g. felguard didn't get buffed because there are no warriors in the raid or 5 man).

That it the old way hit rating scaled with pets, and yes the bug does exist.

We're still working on it. One stat that will almost certainly not get scaled to the pet is armor pen. It is technically (for obscure reasons) challenging to convert the armor pen rating from the hunter to the pet. Given armor pen's not so rosy future (as a stat on gear anyway), this one probably won't get resolved.

We'd still like to scale haste, crit and just about everything else. We'll get done what we can.

Sweet, good to know, and i didn't expec ArPen to Scale considering it was on a limited life span and Mastery on pets doesn't make too much sense (Unless they get the talent tree overwork too.)

but no idea when, either 3.3 or 4.0?

Nice get haste, crit and everything else onto my ghoul. Coupled with the new SS change I can probably put myself on follow, put the ghoul on aggressive and just let him DPS while I go play some foosball or something.
