Last week I was looted the Reclaimed Shadowstrike after killing Onyxia in the 10man mode. I immediately conjured the Thunderstrike to see what it looked like/the stats on it, but I destroyed it, thinking it functioned more like Benediction and the old Shadowstrike. Now, when I go to use the original, i recieve the message "no charges available", and it seems I have no way of summoning the other polearm back.

This charge system is probably a good idea to prevent duping of thunderstrike for tanking ferals (loot the shadowstrike to one, have them all make thunderstrike and trade shadowstrike) but couldn't the use on Shadowstrike just soulbind the item so that this doesn't happen?

Any resolution to this matter would be appreciated.

The item makes the additional item so that it is not difficult to enchant. You would need to enter an in-game ticket to speak with a game master about getting an item restored. I cannot however, tell you whether or not they will restore the item in this situation.

Taken from:
- World of Warcraft Client Patch 1.8.0 (2005-10-11)

Q u o t e:
- Anathema, Benediction, Thunderstrike, and Shadowstrike will now
remember the enchantments and durability data they possessed when
they transform.

This old code wasn't able to be used with the new items? I'm surprised any issue with the new ones came up after you guys got the old ones working fine so long ago.

Separate issue.

That "old code" existed because you only had 1 at a time. Using the item "destroyed" your current one and replaced it with the other (converted back and forth). The new weapon has a single charge that lets you create the other weapon... you will have both at the same time -- which gives you the benefit of being able to have different enchants on the two weapons.

See the changes to the hunter bow/staff around that patch you quoted and notice how similar it is to the new weapon here.

The old-world weapons were often given a single enchant which would be "good enough" for both purposes. Particularly in the case of Shadow-/Thunder-strike, the same enchant would almost always be used for both variations of the weapons (most probably Crusader).

In the current min-max World of Warcraft, few players would be satisfied with that option, instead preferring to have the "best" enchant on each one (eg a Feral Druid would have Mongoose or Massacre on Thunderstrike, while they'd have Berserking on Shadowstrike). Since it would be mechanically tedious to program a weapon to "remember" its enchant for each form, it's much simpler to just allow it to create its alter-ego and be done with it.

Plus it's a neat way to catch people who are willing to actively exploit the system, though I doubt that was intentional.
