My name is Ekrim. I am a Night Elf Rogue, and have been since about nine months or so after launch. This is my first character, my main character, and my favorite character. I just recently hit 80, after running around Northrend since the expansion came out. I am not what most would call a "hard core" player, having ever run a few raids successfully, and only having seen about half the instances you good people have made. Nor am I a "casual" player. I love looking into the theorycrafting of the classes, the lore of the game in general, and into the inner workings of Blizzard as revealed through your enlightening posts. I'm referring to the Blues in general, of course, but Ghostcrawler deserves special mention, I think, for both his unique position and unusual candor.

Like I said, I never really raided that much. Most would say that Blizzard only caters to this crowd or that, but I disagree. I think you cater to everyone. There is PvP aplenty for those who would seek it. There are PvE encounters in any difficulty range for people of any skill level. But most importantly, in my mind, there is a plethora of tools that let us, the average players, make whatever we want of this wonderful game. From the well-documented and open Addon system to the myriad of items that are in just for show, or a laugh, or flavor, you have all done a wonderful job.

I'd also like to state that it's wonderful that you constantly strive to add to the game. And I don't mean just the regular expansions. If you really wanted to, you could just "unlock" a new area and leave it at that. But no! That's not what Blizzard does! Is the Dark Portal opening? Let's make it explode, have an immensely powerful demon raid the capital cities, and have hordes on hordes of demons try to invade, with the players being the thin red line between Azeroth and total obliteration! And then, after they've had just about enough, we'll let them through that gate, and blow their minds!

Is the Lich King going to attack? Let's do it in style, and have the players control the event! If there was ever a series of static servers, I'd ask for one of that event. I still have a screenshot of the Naaru my zombie minions killed in Shattrath, despite my being unable to directly attack anything!

Throw in the holiday events, the recent "achievement" system that brings new meaning to old content (I'm still working on Loremaster), and your recent decision to allow EVERYONE a shot at Arthas (even if we don't get to finish him off) after that long, expansion-length buildup (he popped me like a zit, personally!), and it is obvious that you love your players, and want to take good care of them by providing the best game you can.

So, why am I stating this? Well, to be honest, I figured you could use another voice of support in this forum. While I don't read this personally, I do follow you guys through a Blue Tracker. I wanted to say that, of your buffs and nerfs, I haven't seen anything that I couldn't agree with, even though some were obvious tentative test changes. Here's hoping that your buff/fix to Vanish works as we all hope, and that it doesn't unbalance our damage too much!

Keep up the good work!
Ekrim

It's funny how I expected most people on this forum to react like this. Then again, most people on here like to attack other people for various reasons (mostly to build themselves up, I suppose). The thought process must go like this: "Look, a positive post! But everyone knows the forums are only for complaining! This person must be a suck-up!"

Warcraft does have problems, and has had many larger ones. So have other Blizzard games. But they do actively address these problems, so they never remain problems for very long. It's too bad their power doesn't extend far enough to take care of most of the problem players, like those that post comments like yours.

Dear Ekrim... you are a reasonable man. You are literate. You actually like World of Warcraft.

Yet... you chose to post on the General forum. You are courageous and noble, and I like you. You are henceforth my favorite night elf.

Allow me to join you and say thank you, Blizzard, for making this great game, which keeps getting better and better with every patch and expansion.

Scaarg, all-around good guy.

I agree. I know it's so easy for most people to only speak up when they don't like something, especially in a farily anonymous forum where they can be horribly rude and feel they can get away with it (or whatever their reasoning for the horribleness is). But to see someone who geniunely enjoys the game, and says something about it in a very well written manner...I don't see it as 'sucking up', I see it as incredibly refreshing!!

Thank you Ekrim, and thank you Blizzard!!

Ghostcrawler does a decent enough job at what he's paid to do behind the scenes. When dealing with the public, he's horrible. I went to blizzcon this year, and he was the ONLY person that got up on stage that I felt should just be kept behind the scenes.

His answers were as short as they could be, and it just seemed like he was trying to fly over the material as fast as he could to get off stage. In my opinion, he just doesn't fit with the friendly outgoing staff blizzard promotes.

Thank you, Scaarg. Your response gives me hope that there might be some small amount of goodness hidden in this forum after all!

GREAT post, OP. I was getting worried that Tigole was going to dominate the game with the "raid or die" slogan, but I am glad that died out. It took a while, but I am glad it died. The way the game is progressing now is amazing. I REALLY love the new content in WotLK after my 2 yr hiatus from this game. I love the story for Fordragon and how he was ultimately killed by the rogue Forsaken. It was amazing.

I like the way this game is going and I show it in my signature. That way every post I make, it is an endless thanks for such a great game and continued awesomeness. But if I see that "raid or die" slogan come back, that's it. I remove the signature.

Thank you WoW team! This new direction of a more casual friendly instancing and gaming has surely brought back the smile I enjoyed when I first started playing this game before any raids came out. T

Not all evil plans have to involve world conquest. Sometimes a guy just wants a snack.
