Q u o t e:

I work full-time, so was not able to do the ram running quest more than once a day. Even then, with the tokens from the original quests, plus the daiies, at the end of this year's Brewfest, I walked away with: three pieces of Brewfest Garb (hat, slippers, chestpiece), another year's membership in the Brew of the Month Club, and a pink elekk pet (and a Brewmaster title).

The tokens are there to be made; I even had some tokens left over, so you could probably even miss a few days.

Again, this thread is about the coins getting snatched from people's banks and inventories, NOT about getting the achievement, downing Coren Direbrew, the terrible total drops were for kodos/rams or how horrendous the droprate was for the remote control when compared to any of the trinkets. And in some cases, the coins were gone before the event ended.

Having a flavor test as vague as "requires Brewfest" didn't help anything, especially when given that previous Brewfest currency would stay in the bank for a good long time.

- In the case of Brewfest tickets from 2007, they still exist in-game... to this very day.
- In the case of coins from Brewfest 2008, they had a tick-down duration
- In the case of Brewfest coins of 2009, they had a flavor text of "requires Brewfest". The coins disappeared when Brewfest did.

"Requires X" doesn't mean an item will be deleted. There have been other posts in this thread that have mentioned items that have similar "requires X', but the item itself doesn't disappear from the game entirely when the parameters are not met. It's a flimsy excuse and directly foists the blame for poor word choice on the item to being the player's fault.

Q u o t e:
The coins had a limited duration last year too, but they were often still taking up bag space for a few days after Brewfest. This year they disappeared the second Brewfest was over.
And what Kozzae said. :)

Shoot, I forgot to spend mine, and I'm betting my son did as well. He'll likely be disappointed (he really wanted the Brewmaster Achievement for the title), me ... meh, I was just going to get the pet and keg anyway.

Honestly, I'm finding more and more that the holiday achievements are more frustrating than fun, given how much time I can devote to them. Which is fine, I guess. Clearly I'm not the target audience for them. But it kind of runs counter to the whole idea of a holiday, I suppose. At least the way I think of them. Blizzard's holiday team clearly disagrees. ;-)

Everyone sold the clothes back so that's not really a good point.

Q u o t e:
If you cared about the meta and you weren't going to do enough to get 550 tokens, you sold the clothes.

I'm not talking about "lolRP" collectors.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Crap, did I just say it'll never happen? That almost guarantees that it will happen, at a cost of $19.99!

It means exactly what I meant it to mean, when used with the qualifier I used. It also helps to read the posts preceding it for context, ye of semantics chicanery.

In the future, it may be advisable when you have the opportunity to take care of things as they come rather than waiting til the last minute.
Hell, this applies to pretty much everything outside of the game, too, especially medical stuff.

I believe the coins said "requires brewfest" on them.

Exactly. Most folks did not expect them to vanish because they didn't have an expiration date. Can they be used outside of Brewfest? Of course not. But come NEXT YEAR's Brewfest, they would become usable again. I think that was the expectation based on the "Requires Brewfest"- that they were permanent items that could only be used during a Brewfest Festival. If an item was marked "Requires Darkmoon Fair" on it, I would expect that item to stay in my inventory between fairs.

Since last year's Brewfest, the tokens were intended to expire before the following year's Brewfest came around again. If people found ways around the old expiration, that doesn't make it less of a bug if they remained. Only the tickets from 2007 had no duration. It's partially because of that ability to work around the timers that this new functionality was implemented.

I do apologize that you weren't better informed about this particular change. Moving forward, I'll be sure to remind the playerbase during token-based holidays that they will expire, and I'll speak to the web team as well to work that information into the official holiday pages so this does not happen again.

Yes, the wording was very confusing. Since the text and their duration seem to change every year, this year I interpreted it as you could keep them but not spend anywhere except during the holiday. It could be hard for new players to understand as well since the holiday vendor seemed to have the ability to convert old tickets/token in to the current year. Some might infer that this year's wouldn't get deleted. I think blizzard could make it clearer on future holidays.

This is a lesson in procrastination: "Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today."

Holidays are temporary. When they are over, the holiday items are unavailable.

Holidays are also annual. If you missed your chance this year, you have another shot next year.

I must admit, when I first noticed the "Requires Brewfest", I did assume that the tokens would remain in my inventory until next year, but just be "inactive".

I'm curious, however . . . Even if this year's tokens had a countdown, and didn't just disappear outright, where were you going to spend them? As far as I know, the Brewfest vendors disappear with Brewfest. And as for last year's tokens having a countdown, what were you going to do, not log into your character for a year? I'm missing something.

I kinda figured they would just disappear. Since that's how everything works in the game.

That's fine, and I'm sure most folks will appreciate the warning in advance (assuming they read the web pages for the holiday, and understand the temporary nature of the tokens) next year, but it's disappointing that the "they go poof, so sad, too bad, maybe next year" nature of the tokens wasn't better communicated this year.

Honestly, I don't care about the meta achievement, and didn't care either way about whether or not I finished this holiday's achievement, nor does it really matter to me if I got the pet and keg or not. But the whole thing leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

/shrug. I suppose the response most folks will give me is "suck it up, loser", but if you ask me, there are far too many "so sad, too bad, work harder next time ... other folks did it, go cry elsewhere" aspects of the game, tying more of them to so-called holiday events where (in my mind) the point is celebration and fun, well ... what can I say, I'd handle things much differently if the decision were mine. Clearly, you guys think differently about it. That's cool, it's your game.

It depends on the type of tick-down that the item itself has. Some have an in-game day duration, meaning it accounted for your logged-in time, while others ticked down according to the clock.

Kisirani,

In all honesty, I think you and the other developers have put together a fantastic game. Kudos to all of you for your hard work, dedication, love for the game and direct effort at bettering things for every one.

I didn't personally feel any loss from this years event. But I can see where people could have misinterpreted the flavor text on the item.

Again, no hard feelings toward the developers. This is one of the best games I've ever played and will probably continue to enjoy it for years to come.

The year round NPC vendor talked about accepting left over coins. Since this was a year round npc, there was no timer on the coins this year, no announcement the coins were going to be deleted out of your inventories/banks, and the vendors would exchange tickets for coins, many many players assumed they could just use the year round npc to just turn in their coins after brewfest. That's what I thought, the wording about accepting left over coins certainly lended to that thought. I know several players that thought the exact same thing. There are people here, including the blue who said we shouldn't have waited to the last minute. I understand the mentality of people waiting to the last minute and failed. The problem is that several of us didn't KNOW there would be a last minute. If anything, the indications in-game were all we could just turn them in later. So I stuffed my 260 something coins in the bank and didn't think anything of it.

Even now, Blizzard seems to be taking the stance that they will communicate these changes on the website only. Really, how hard is it to put on the tooltip: "These items will expire at the end of the holiday" or something similar?

I finished brewfest and got the meta. I had 150 coins left over. I thought about buying something for the coins I had left, but got busy and forgot about it.

Honestly, I don't care that they are gone, and I didn't notice anyway, but I have to agree that it is pretty crappy it wasn't fully annouced they would disappear. I also think it's pretty crappy that some people lost their coins before the event ended. <-- THAT is a bug and blizzard should fix it. But, we all know they won't. It's your loss and they know they will never lose a huge player amount to "missing brewfest coins", so I doubt they even care.

I guess, it's like this. Next holiday event, everyone will now know not to save anything. SPEND SPEND SPEND.

Sorry all.

Gave that a tweak for ya. "You" sounds very accusatory, and never sounds good in a apology.
