Just thinking about it; Goblins and Worgen aren't actually adding much new in on their own like Death Knights did; both take existing models, use existing class abilities, and get a bit of prettying up in terms of a starting area w/quests and such. But there's no real "point" to them.

Loony theory here, or maybe not-so-loony: Blizzard lamented bringing everyone and their uncle to Hellfire peninsula at the start of TBC. They tried to separate us into other places in Northrend and servers still had trouble, there weren't enough quest mobs, etc.

So...are Goblins+Worgen a clever tactic to further separate out where the population is on servers on launch week?

So, instead of giving 2 new starting areas like in Nr, we get...2 new starting areas in Azeroth?

I wish Worgen had there own class. It seems there going to make us wait for anything like that until the next expansion. For now in terms of characters we just get new skins to use. Maybe some racials probably not worth it.

Q u o t e:
both take existing models,

Worgen race models are not ingame, and there aren't any ingame screenshots of the females yet even.

One in three Broadband subscribers is a Pirate. The other two thirds are Ninjas and Vikings.

I agree. There should only be one playable race that can be all classes.

Bear in mind they're revamping the entire old world, not just adding a couple new start areas and calling it a day. There's a strong motivation right there to level from 1 again, just to see what's new and different as you go along.

We kind of learned the lesson with Hellfire Peninsula and that was why we made two "starting" zones for Northrend to help spread players out. The new races will help in this too, kind of like how a bunch of people went straight to making a deathknight, but that isn't the primary goal of adding the new races.

Can we get any confirmation on race change restrictions besides Goblin/Worgen.

(example: human hunter)

Throw me a bone here, my will to play anything else has died. However! If I could start leveling a hunter now and flip over to human, well that will keep my VISA plugged into your system instead of taking a break till the xpac! =P

I would also like to point out they are not using existing models or animations as you state. And the massive starting zone, which they have to make several times due to phasing?

I'd like to see you do that, then tell me it's easy and cheap.

Long live the gnomish empire!

I'm asking about the ability (example) to level a dwarf hunter now and then later race change to a human as soon as I have the xpac installed.

I can't stand ANY of the current races who can be hunters.

Really think about what you are saying here. Defeats the purpose of the new world to come.

Believe they already said at one point...maybe Blizzcon or shortly after, I forget, that odds are there'd be restrictions on the race changing to the new combos to prevent the first level 85 of the new combos being someone that just race changed.

Now, whether or not that remains or if they change their mind by then, who knows. I probably wouldn't count on race changing to a new combo right at launch though.

Edit: Here you go - http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=19595380423&sid=1&pageNo=1#0 that's the last bit of info regarding the race changing that I remember seeing.

Umm... there were two new races when TBC came out also so I don't really understand your argument. You say they're trying to avoid what happened in TBC by doing exactly the same thing they did in TBC?

why do people come up with retarded theories when there are perfectly reasonable and likely reasons already apparent?
