i'm sure there have been countless threads on this, but i just got done tanking a 10 ToC and the healers were horrible and it made me realize how much i hate not being a healer.

Healing isn't as straight forward as dps or tanking.

DPS and Tanking revolve around two basic things, their positioning and their cooldown managements. In both cases, they focus on a single target. There is always the "right" target to be attacking, it doesn't require much thought. Maximizing damage output is very basic and easy. Basically, all DPS REALLY have to worry about is not dying.

For healing, you never really know who's going to need a heal. Most healers play in complete reaction, freak out when there's lots of damage, and in that they "tunnel vision". A good healer is one who not only reacts swiftly, but anticipates damage. With a greater understanding of fight mechanics, you can know when people are going to take more damage, who is going to be taking the damage, and thus who you are going to heal.

It's a lot more complicated than the other two roles, and that's why I love it. The ceiling for a good healer is always going to be a lot higher than a DPS or a tank, whose jobs are simple enough that they are almost always limited by their gear (assuming they understand their class). However, that also means that there are going to be a lot of bad healers.

I don't understand how tanks can expect me to heal them through not switching soon enough on impales when they have 30k base health.

tanking is 50x easier to do than healing btw. all you have to worry about is making sure you're using your gcds correctly (ie dont sit there for 5 seconds auto attacking) and popping buttons when you get low / when the boss is about to do a supermove.

you see decent tanks WAAAAAAY more than you see decent healers

Why is your guild the name of the state I live in...

and bad tanks are so much easier to carry than bad healers.

i'm sure we have different opinions on what is easy and what is hard. neither healing nor tanking is hard, even at high ends of progression but at least healing takes more anticipating and reacting to new situations.

it's similar to how melee and casters work in pvp

melee just sit on a target maybe switch once a fight to get a gib

casters actually have to prevent that gib from happening and react to it when it happens

and they can't 2 shot people unless ur destro but that doesnt matter because u just get *@*#d by melee trains anyway

I dunno. As a healer I never have to worry about reading up on boss strategies. As a tank I felt paralyzed going up against anything I had never tanked before because I wasn't sure where I needed to be or what to do.

Right now I feel like tanking was more difficult simply by virtue of familiarity.

yes, this is true, but once you've done it once, you're able to do it again and again and again because it's you vs a computer. for healers, it's you vs how stupid your tanks/dps are and how much RNG the game wants to give you.

edit: basically every fight is different as a healer even doing the same encounter repeatedly
