Simple question and I'm hoping for a simple answer.

Q u o t e:
Meet the criteria for A Tribute to Insanity without any raid member having used an item only obtainable from 25-player Coliseum, or any more powerful item.

I would like some clarity on what the second half of that statement implies.
Am I correct in assuming that :
All vendor 245 gear and all Tier 245 gear is fine for the achievement.
All Heroic10 245 gear is fine for the achievement, including gear from the chest at the end.
All other 245 gear (i.e. that which is attainable from Normal and Heroic 25) will disqualify you.

Thanks.

If it is like Herald then you are wrong. As long as your gear is 245 or less you are fine. Anything over 245 and you will be disqualified. It doesn't matter where the gear was acquired as long as you meet the item level requirements.

I was wondering about this. Many many guilds have tribute to insanity now, but only 1 has tribute to dedicated. Did really every one of the guilds with tribute to insanity use the very few pieces of 258 gear they have had time to acquire by now? I mean, you'd think the 2-3 pieces of 258 gear a raid may have wouldnt make a difference at all for all the guilds already with insanity, so I'm thinking its not just any 245 gear?

The downside to being better than everyone else is people tend to assume you're pretentious.

We attempted this and completed it with 50 attempts remaining but we didn't recieve the achievement. It some how bugged out, or some piece of gear was counting that we weren't expecting. We were not wearing any 25 man CC or 25 man CC heroic gear.

We were guessing this caused it to not work :

1) We had a death (dedicated insanity use to require immortality)
2) Val'anyr is considered too strong for the achievement (but then the achievement is poorly worded)
3) 245 badge items bug it out.

As far as I'm aware, #3 is most likely to be the cause of you not obtaining the achievement. To quote Vaey from Refuge "We all used gear below itemlvl 245 because we thought that blizz will check itemlvls instead of drop loaction."

Regardless of the reasoning the tool tip should be clarified, or some way of checking if your gear is valid for the achievement.

Yeah I really think this achievement should only be done with iLevel 232 or below to be safe.

I'm going to restate someone's earlier suggestion in another thread:

Give one of the NPCs in the instance a dialogue option to check and confirm that your gear meets the requirement for the achievement. Clearly the programming is already in place to check for such a thing, just add the confirmation to players and call it a day.

Except that 232 gear from ToC fails Herald as well.

Great idea and easy to implement.

I'm worried about this a bit for Herald as well, as our strict 10 guild is going to accomplish it soon. From what I understand, we can only use 232 gear from Ulduar-10 hard modes and everything else has to be 226 or below, meaning we can't use base T9 from Triumph Badges. Can anyone confirm that this is the case? Thanks.

For Herald it seems you need to have no greater than 226 for every slot except ranged or weapon, which can be 232. Its a bit simpler than the ToC one.

By the wording of the ToC one, you should be able to use badge 245 gear, any 245 tier gear, any 245 gear from heroic 10-man, and the 258 cloaks from the tribute chest in 10-man. You should NOT be able to use 245 gear from 25-man only, or the 258 equivalents (or future Icecrown gear).

Some think that Valanyr fits the criterea being from Ulduar, and others don't since its 245. I personally think it would be strange for it to not work but it might not.

It's odd that 232 hard mode weapons from Ulduar can't be used. I wish they'd clarify this on the tooltip. /sigh

You misinterpreted me, I think.

You can use Ulduar 10 hard mode weapons, and you can use Ulduar 25 normal mode weapons. Here I'll break it down.

For Herald of the Titans (as that was what you asked?)...

OK:
-Anything from Ulduar 10-man (219 gear from normal, 226 armor/jewelry from hard, 232 weapons/ranged from hard)
-Anything from normal mode bosses in Ulduar 25-man (226 armor/jewelry, 232 weapons/ranged)
-presumeably 232 weapons/ranged from 10-man ToC normal would be ok too - but unconfirmed

Not OK:
-Anything from Ulduar 25 hard modes
-Anything from ToC (except maybe weapons/ranged from normal ToC 10-man as they are 232 - this is unconfirmed, again)
-No triumph badge gear of any kind

Wow, great description. Thank you very much.

Yes, I had misread what you posted as "ranged weapons" not "ranged or weapons". Sorry about that. :)

Am definitely wondering about the 232 items from 10-man TOC normal. Anyone know?

I got Herald of the Titans last weekend while using a 232 weapon from Coliseum-10.

Anyway, regarding the OP, my parsing of the language should permit badge 245s, crafted 245s, and 245 set pieces. Basically if it's 245+ and you can only get it by killing a 25-man boss, don't wear it. I don't have any solid proof to support that, but it makes sense given that they would've just given an item level like they did in the past if it were a straight item level cutoff.

For herald I can confirm its 226 armor limit and 232 weapon limit, toc weapons/shields/ranged were used by my group and we got it.

I had people ask about pvp gear but we ended up not using any so I can't say anything about furious stuff.
