besides being greedy, what other possible reason would there be for blizzard to charge any money at all for this service?

I want to post to say that I also think it's just too much. My friends and I were pretty excited about this service, rescuing some alts from another server that never get played since we switched factions by re-rolling. Now we all agree we won't use it. $55? That is a lot.

I still don't understand how faction changes was easier to implement then race changes.

I really hope they take all these unhappy customers into consideration. I myself will not be paying for this until the cost is lowered. In no way should the price of this cost more than the subscription fees.

If the hardcores actually went away and stop posting on the forums, I would consider 3.2 to be an overwhelming success. -Illiyana

Q u o t e:
WOW, that's way to much money. Can't you guys just do something for us that don't ask us for MORE money?

What world do you live in?

They spent a LOT of time and effort getting this option set up. Additionally, non-subscription transactions are a sizeable source of income for Blizzard, and that money (keep in mind that their parent company takes a decent portion of what they make) helps to finance the hardware and staff responsible for maintaining and growing WoW.

I'll also remind you that cost is a natural deterrent. They want people to make use of this feature but not too many. Think about it for a second -- if faction transfers (or server transfers or anything else) was free then people would do it all the time because there was no downside. If there was no cost or a very cheap cost then Blizzard would be inundated with requests for faction transfers or server transfers or whatever and the quality of service would suffer (it would also become more costly on their end).

$30 is not a lot of money. I work and go to college full time. I am not wealthy by any stretch of the imagination but $30 is well within my budget. If it's not within yours, I highly suggest managing your money more effectively or perhaps getting a better job.

The only way this is expensive is if you want to transfer a lot of characters, and in that situation I don't see how you have much room to complain. Blizzard is still giving you an option to do something that would have involved rerolling before. If you have so many characters that spending $30 each to swap factions is unreasonable then it should be equally unappealing to reroll and relevel all of them on the other faction. If you have time enough to do that then you're either unemployed or have no life, in which case maybe you should consider getting a job or a more involved social life.

Based on my own personal experience the average person in their 20's spends significantly more on alcohol in a week then I spend on video games in an entire month. Stay home on Friday and Saturday night for once and you'll have enough to cover your transfer.

Patch 3.2 = No more Baron shortcut. Way to have priorities, Blizz.

Not sure if it has been asked in the 8 pages already, but what would happen to my Realm First! 80 Troll Feat of Strength?

I would like to know this too (for gnome, but I doubt that makes a difference to the answer). These achievements are not listed in the FAQ.

The problem isn't the $30 - it's the $55 or more for server + account transfers. I have an old account with a human warrior in full BWL gear that I would love to move to my main horde account (on the same server). It's going to cost me something like $55-80 to do all that which is a bit ridiculous.

Asking loyal subscribers who have diligently paid the fair monthly subscription price for many years to pay $55 dollars change faction and servers seems like a personal affront, and to be frank it's a bit insulting. I couldn't be more happy that Blizzard has listened to the desires of the community and implemented this feature, but for many of us who have been waiting a long time to join our friends on other servers, the realization of this feature is now out of reach (I know my budget is especially tight with the current state of the economy). I understand that it is my prerogative to roll a new character and level it up for no additional cost, however the fact that such a convenient feature has been released yet placed fiscally out of reach is disappointing.

Edit: I strongly believe that Blizzard deserves to make money and that the time and effort spent creating and implementing this feature deserves compensation, however I think the price point should be more accessible to the community as a whole.

sadly, even with the valid complaint about the price point.. people have probably already donated a million bucks to the blizzard charity for this service.

I agree its too expensive. Not the faction transfer itself ... thats fine. The problem is it goes way over priced when you factor in the server transfer. Most players wanted this service to either play with friends or would like to have their new faction member with the rest of his other same faction toons. Most of which are in separate servers already considering previous restrictions to the realms.

Please add a realm transfer to the service. Im even willing to give a little more ($40 - $45) for both.

Account transfers are an entirely seperate service.

Q u o t e:
Business also works by when you overcharge and abuse your customers, they tell you about it and refuse what you're selling. There's been enough people here saying they're overcharging that it's reasonable to assume that a lot of people think they're overpricing the service...that's business, too.

What determines over-charging? Where is this magical, mystical rule-book that says Blizzard is doing that? Sure we're hearing some people complain in here but those who complain are often far more vocal than those who accept. We can't measure anything with this thread.

Q u o t e:
And get over the ridiculous idea that people are complaining because they can't afford $30. I won't pay $20 for a beer at a restaurant either, that doesn't mean I can't afford the $20.

Apples to oranges. Does that beer offer countless hours of activity/enjoyment? If I could get that out of a $30 beer you bet I'd pay for it. We're talking about cost versus gain here my friend. The amount of time (and thus money, to many) is far more expensive than the actual dollar cost.

Q u o t e:

At $30 plus another $25 for a server transfer, the people they're competing with are the powerleveling companies and gold sellers that everyone agrees they hate.

Competing? More like dominating. By going with a power-leveling company:
-You lose your mounts, rare pets (I'm bringing over Murky for example), gear, factions, earned titles, feats of strength and countless other time invested items.
-You run an inherent risk for both your character AND your payment information. Security and assurance, along with most things in life, costs money.

In the end, this is a no brainer. Factor in what a "fair" price would be for those of you complaining. Say...$15. If that's the case, the extra $15 should be well worth it if you sat down and took a moment to look beyond mere dollars and cents. I do fully understand to some people it still wont be worth it but that's why you have a choice here. Use it.
