0. feral druid UI using power auras 08/18/2009 01:16:38 PM PDT
I recently took my raiding resto druid and made her kitty for her second spec. As you know, it has a lot of things to monitor, so I used Power Auras heavily to help get me on the right track. I had looked into feralbynight and facemauler, but this seemed a bit more organic and less robotic. Anyway, I thought this demo might help other ferals who need UI ideas.

(I know, I know... I too cringed at those points where I'm energy starved because of my piss-poor rotation)

This setup is pretty cool bro. I use a different set up to monitor my debuffs. I use Need to Know for all of the abilities, but I might give power auras a try.

Yeah, I used needtoknow for a bit with tellmewhen. Both great addons, for sure. I used to use a lot of different addons on my dps toons, but more and more I've found power auras has the advantage of combining info. For instance, giving me an Aspect of the Viper warning when my hunters mana drops below 20% but then telling me to turn it off when I get over 90%. For my feral, I want to eventually get away from using the ability icons and switch to a more graphic way of representing. My DK guildmate uses them in a more organic way that's really appealing:

yeah the ability icons kinda kill your setup for me =/ If you could get it more graphically set up then it'd be awesome. I'm also gonna dl the feral sound addon. I used to have it but never updated it a few months ago but I think its pretty useful for letting you know when your abilities actually hit and your crits giving more cps and stuff.

I use something real similar. Power auras with:
Red icons mean the buff / debuff isn't up.
Normal icons with timers show timer on debuff.
For bear form I have icons for:
FFF by anyone.
Demo shout or roar or curse of weakness or vindication by anyone.
Lacerate stack "casted by me".
SI ready (timer if not)
Barkskin ready (timer if not)
For cat form I have icons for:
Roar buff on me.
Clearcasting buff on me (no timer)
FFF by anyone.
Mangle (cat or bear) or trauma by anyone.
Rake "casted by me".
Rip "casted by me".
Tiger's fury ready and energy < 25.
Berserk ready.
What I like about PA more than other addons I've seen is the ability to filter for 'casted by me' when I care (rake, rip) or to look for debuffs on the mob regardless of who cast it (fff, mangle). Also the ability to check for several different debuffs that mean the same thing is tasty like:
Demo shout or roar or weakness or vindication.
Sunder armor or expose armor.
Mangle bear or mangle cat or trauma.
I also have combo points, but I stole this guy's look for a more animated notification that I'm at 5:

Check at about 3:00 in to see the way my 5 combo notification looks.

Check out BadKitty!

I use 6 power auras for everything... they're very small and largely transparent so they don't distract me, with timers.
One for mangle, one for rake, one for SR, one for Rip, one that stays on if FF isn't up, and one for Grim Toll procs.
Plus some extra ones for various things I may miss in arena (Icebound Fortitude on DKs, spell reflect on warriors, etc.) which are larger and appear more visibly to let me know when they're up.
