Soul Crush

You shatter a soul shard to blow your target to bits, killing them instantly.

What could possibly go wrong?

It also kills the warlock... oops.

Trifling Gnome, your arrogance will be your undoing!

I was watching Naruto and I saw some sly Ninja turn into a tree stump and pop up on the otherside of the badguy and start throwing ninja stars at him... soul shards should do something like that... and change Demonic Circle... make DC a Debuff instant cast while stunned on an enemy that teleports the Lock 30/40 yards behind the target... then make soul shards for locks Naruto ninja stars!

Good idea about DC mixed in with Naruto...

You're right, it's terrible that Warlocks need to be within 40 yards of their circle to escape stunlock.

Shamans have a much better alternative, DYING.

I don't make many promises because even when I say "there is a very slight chance we may eventually consider changing this at some point in the future" that then becomes "promised us next patch." :)

But we are excited about the shard system and we think warlocks will view it as a cool component to their class instead of a hassle they have to put up with.

I wouldn't view it as a "buff." I'm not sure your dps really needs a buff at the moment if that's what you mean. If you mean taking something kind of marginal and perhaps annoying and making it cool, then that's what we intend to to.

Too often our recent design has just been to marginalize shards more and more. That isn't the direction we want for the class though. We want shards to be one of the main things you think about as a lock, but that includes rewarding you when you use them well.

GC, will the new system be revealed at this years Blizcon? I know it was said not to long ago that it might be announced, but can we have confirmation?

I'm just going to call it right now:

most of our abilities will be nerfed, and soul shards will be used to bring them back up to where they are now.

as in, we'll view shards as a necessity, but not to our benefit.

Some people think that sarcasm doesn't translate well through text-based forums.

I completely disagree.

this is what im afraid of. The only way it could be "fun" is if it brought not only new mechanics and (guessing cooldown type things to watch) but new abilities.

GC you say it won't be a buff to DPS, and thats fine. But will it bring alternate dps abilities? or special nitch abilities, or perhaps a defensive cooldown of sorts?

Thank you I am far too intoxicated and enraged to type coherent thoughts but I pray GC will read this (that ive been saying forever) and think about it for a minute.

Also this shard change has to be a buff right? If they grant temporary bonuses then thats +1 bonus over what we had. right?

i lol'd at this... simply because shamans don't escape stunlock -> death :\

Better yet, the soul shard system will be a lot of fun at first but will be op in pvp and destroyed later.

It's first iteration will not be the final product...it will either be ridiculously OP and require nerfing, it will be ridiculously underpowered and no locks will use it, or it will be like DC:T...super cool but also super useless.

I know, I'm a cynic.

You must drain a shard from an enemy before you can use said shard to conflag.

Hope its not this sort of reward they are thinking about.

It's humorous how the vast majority of locks are so down trodden that they can't even imagine that this will be a good change.

I'm right there with them.

What this seems like to me is that we're still going to have to have a wasted bag slot and we're going to do what we already do now, just have to work more to do it.

well I at least can't wait to hear about what is it before I complain.
I really want GC to be right, but im not sure how they'll approach this.

and the approach will determine whether his idea is well received by the warlock community or treated like shadowflame/dt.

I'll give credit where credit is due, if the new system adds complications to the class, but with special benefits I'll be a fanboy.

If it nerfs old abilities making them require more work and shards to bring them up to old par then everyone will hate it. If the new system brings something which is more work than fun and with no new sparkly useful abilities I'll probably have to complain.

In other words new mechanics are great as long as they bring new uses. new mechanics without new uses are just a pain in the bucket. for example if a new change to the mage class was "you now have to press X while casting to get the same old cast, where before pressing X was not required. that would suck

if soul shards turn out like "manage this new mechanic and you will gain + abilities, + attributes, + something new and useful then it will be good.

agreed?

Okay, I've read like 3 posts in this thread, and I can't take it anymore. I feel like I'm stupider for even having looked at this, and I don't see why GC bothered to post here.

It can swim! My horse can swim! My strider can swim! My motorcycle can... how does this work again?
