In the next patch a new feature will be become available that will give players the option to extend the instance lock, or instance ID of a raid or heroic dungeon. It will be possible to extend an instance lock more than once and each extension will grant an additional amount of time equal to the duration of the original instance lock. In other words, you'd gain 24-hours if you chose to extend the instance lock of a heroic dungeon, whereas you'd gain 7-days by extending the lock on Ulduar. Additionally, extending an instance lock is a choice that's solely up to each individual, and is not controlled by the group's party or raid leader. This new option is being added as a means to allow parties and raids to progress through an instance at their chosen pace, and should prove to be a useful option available when the patch is released.

So by this way someone could do this for alt runs:

Main raid clears a few hard modes and stops, alt logs in and takes the ID and extends it. Main group gets un-saved tuesday, alt run takes up the old ID to finish it with regular modes while main run gets a new ID.

clarification, if we choose to extend our lockout, does this mean that we loose that next weeks lockout? For example my 10 man is able to kill up to General Vezax Sunday, unforeseen circumstances on monday do not allow for us to kill Yogg. Will we be able to extend our lockout to that tuesday beat Yogg then be able to come back on Wednesday and start back with FL? Or is it that once you extend the raid lockout you are no longer able to obtain that new weeks lockout?

Furthermore is it the case that each individual will have to extend the lockout for the original 10 man to be present, or can the RL extend the lockout and by us going into his Raid ID we are saved to the new extension, sorta in the same manner it happens now?

You can un-extend as long as you don't do anything worth getting saved to the instance in the extended lockout. Read the notes.

My understanding is if ulduar is suppose to restet on the 6th (a tuesday) and you extend that you will be saved to that lock out until the next tuesday (the 13th in this example).

So no you will not get FL on weds if my understanding is correct.

I think the it works this way. Ie. If my character extends it, but someone else does not they are not saved still but I am. Then i can invite others who are not currently saved to that instance I extended and they'll be saved to my extended Raid-ID.

I see what you did there!

So it would give guild alts the ability to bypass "gatekeeper" bosses and perhaps down a later, easier boss and access better loot. However, the main raid would have to forego the later bosses for at least one week to set this up, which I guess is no big deal if they don't ever need loot from there again. At least the main raid would miss out on a few emblems lol.

Ok, so does this mean in a situation for a heroic dungeon.

5 people named 1...5 respectively

1 and 2 know each other, 3-5 are fail, group fails on 2nd boss, 1st boss down, saved

1 and 2 leave, 3-5 grab 2 other peeps to fill up spots, fail again but want to continue, 3-5 extend it, new 1-2
leave

orig 1 and 2 want to finish as well, they both extend as well

3-5 grab their new 1 and 2's for the 3rd time and clear it b4 the ORIGINAL 1 & 2 could get 3 more ppl for the next day

does 1-2 go into the instance id with the new 3 ppl they replaced and see an empty dungeon?

sorry for this being really complicated but this would answer A LOT of my questions all at the same time

Q u o t e:
If you can have 2 WoW abilities in real life which you would pick?

I'll take 2 im already good at doing, feign death and feed pet

This extension is per character right? So if the raid leader extends the instance it doesn't screw the rest of us out of doing a fresh run?

Don't hate me because I say what I think.

What guilds don't realize though, apparently, is by keeping the lockout stretched, you never get back to the bosses that you CAN kill. Which means your raid doesn't progress stat-wise, which just might be what is keeping you stuck and extending the raid lock in the first place.

I'm not sure this is a good idea.

Ok that was complex. So let me give a small example of what I think happens and hope it answers what you asked.

players 1-5 take on H. Occulus on monday, will reset tomorrow. Last boss never gets killed. Players 1 and 2 decide to extend and get friends (players 6-8) to kill him on tuesday after the reset. Now even if players 3-5 exteneded it and tried it on wedsday, I would guess that because the ID has been cleared by players 1,2,6,7,8 all players 3,4,5 get is an empy instance.

Hope that made sence. But that is what I think happens.

Also great name! Love Malfy.
