well it did get moved to the blizz archive but you can't be sure if they're scrapping the idea or not.

It is a legitimate concern what effect faction change will have on the Horde-Alliance balance of servers, and to an extent some are also worried by a flood of bad players to their side.

Regarding the title question; given how they haven't announced that they were getting rid of it, I would assume it is still planned. I think after a set amount of time a announcement-sticky has been up, they delete it once they think the announcement has reached everyone it usually would on the forums, to not clog up the page with possibly unnecessary stickies.

EDIT: That 4 letter word that starts with 'ra' that blizzard filters certainly messes up a lot of normal words.

Blizzard did a mass housecleaning of it's stickies yesterday because it was taking up half the page. I wouldn't read anything into it.

Okay, I didn’t see the answer to the question anywhere. We are not looking for updates as you said there is none to be given. Were looking for making sure it is still in the process as stated previously. That I wouldn’t constitute an update but a confirmation of what was already stated.

Please for the love of god let this still happen, ever since it was announced i've been gitty to go play with friends on a different server/faction. the fact that the release is unknown is what really kills. =\

I admit, this was a concern I had as well, for the same reasons. Also, Bornakk's nonanswer makes things seem somewhat more sketchy.

It's possible we're just being a bit paranoid, but I have an old 70 horde character who I'm currently leveling for the sole purpose of bringing him over to Alliance, and it would be upsetting to have wasted all this time.

My biggest concern is that the feature won't be available before it becomes neigh-useless.

Undoubtedly many people will use this function to simply switch factions out of the blue. And certainly there are those who simply do not wish to level an alt when they have already leveled a certain class (on the other faction) once before.

But I believe the group that will benefit most are people who have, for whatever reason, had to switch factions to continue playing the game competitively. To these people (and I speak in such a perspective only to fabricate objectiveness as I am currently in this group) the Horde and the Alliance were merely names. Wherever a competitive guild has room for their class, they have transferred, rerolled, or even purchased new accounts and rerolled (in the case of the mutually-exclusive PvP servers) to continue being able to play at the level that they wish.

Faction changes, however, help alleviate the stranded or claustrophobic feeling that comes after a once-secure guild falls apart. Unfortunately, if this feature is not released relatively soon (with the Icecrown Citadel raid at the latest), it will be utterly useless for this type of player (us/we/them/I/whatever have you). With the game's next expansion rapidly approaching (from a raiding standpoint, that is, unless you plan on "Sunwelling" us again) and an inevitable gear-reset, switching factions on "decked out," retired characters will be unnecessary. Why bother when I can just level a brand new character to 80 and prepare it for the gear reset?
