Q u o t e: Let me ask this, The item doesn't say anything about requiring you to actually be 80 to buy it. So what's to keep someone for buying it themself on their level 68 main and totally skipping the concept of exploring northrend as intended as main.
While i agree that alts it's a great idea, i don't think it's a good idea if new players can get it too. Bad enough they can afk level to 60 with recruite a friend in dungeons, 60-70 do about 2-3 zones with way exp was buffed out there. then at 68 fly and zip through northrend too? This person will be in LFG for ulduar heroic and emalon 2 days after they made the char, in all greens going "can I has raid?"
Players must be level 80 to purchase the tome and it can only be transferred to a character on the same realm, faction and account.

zar in the ptr notes I didn't see them say that they changed the engineering lvl flying machines, do you know if they going to do this for when a lvl 60 engineer can make his own or is he still going to have to wait to 70 to get them. I also think they shouldn't have a lvl restriction just an engineering lvl. I have an alt with 442 engineering but he can't learn them yet becase he is only 68 lol.

Q u o t e:
just give everyone a premade lvl 80 with the best gear you can get in the game because you are heading that way
DONT WORK FOR ANYTHING. EVENTUALLY BLIZZ WILL JUST GIVE IT TO YOU
There is a difference between something which is challenging and something which is merely tedious.
Doing a difficult quest for the first time is tedious. Exploring new terrain for the first time is exciting.
Doing these things a second (or third, or fourth) time isn't challenging or exciting, just boring. It makes sense to let people skip the boring parts of the game and get straight to the fun stuff.

Makes sence to me.
They didnt have the flying available (and still dont) untill you hit 78 so you couldnt just fly over most of Northrend and miss alot of it.
At lvl 80 when you can buy one of these for a alt, you have already lvled through most of Northrend the first time. So they are being nice and allowing you to fly over it if you wish with your alts.
The worst thing about WoW?
The "If I cant complete it / kill it, then change it / remove it" attitude.

Q u o t e:
Ok I like to apologize ahead of time if this question is answered before but if one of my character have the epic flying training already and I buy this tome. If I send it to one of my alts would I be able to ride epic flying or just normal with my alt ?
Your alt will be able to fly at whatever level of riding they have. The tome is only for cold weather flying (what you need to be able to fly in Northrend).

I think this only gives him the cold weather flying if I am understanding him right. You would still need to be 70 to get epic flying.

From what I understand, cold weather flying just lets you use your existing flying skill in Northrend. So you will still have to shell out the cash for normal / epic flying for this tome to be of any use.

You still need to pay for regular flying (soon to be lvl 60) and epic flying (level 70). This is ONLY cold weather flying.

The tome is for cold weather flying, not regular or epic flying training. Your alt would ride at whatever speed you have trained.

Q u o t e:
You just have to buy the tome. The cost for the player is the same. It just means if you have an alt and can afford it, you can get yourself flying in Northrend by level 68.
Nice change. The first time through Northrend was exciting. While I still enjoy seeing the content again on alts, it makes it much more convenient to be able to unlock cold weather flying earlier. Thanks.

Well, just have to say: Thank god it's heirloom and not a significant change like the mounts.
I started leveling this toon as my new main, only to find out a few lvls before 60 that the entire mount system was going to be changed. A good portion of my guild stopped leveling, and to say the least, I'm annoyed; either I stop leveling & hope he patch is released soon, or carry on and potentially waste a good chunk of cash on what could be just a coupe days before release.

Q u o t e: Would've been nice to have this for the alts I've already leveled by running around forever on ground mounts. Gratz to newcomers.
New (and returning) players are still grounded in Northrend, if it's a heirloom item that you need a level 80 to purchase first. I'd prefer that everyone have access to the same riding skills, but it's not my decision to make.
59. Re: Just discovered: cold weather flying at 6 07/07/2009 11:15:31 PM PDT
I'm not some elitist prick, but I think this change will contribute to this game getting trashed, like a lot of other changes in 3.2. So we're going to have level 70 dks with 20 hours /played on their characters zipping around Northrend on epic flying mounts? There's no reason to add this, why does my alt need to fly, all of my other characters did just fine on the ground.
