0. Upcoming Arena 2v2 Bracket Changes 07/03/2009 09:00:36 AM PDT

After further consideration, and after hearing from many players, we are going to change how we approach the 2 vs. 2 arena bracket in Arena Season 7. We still think the 3 vs. 3 and 5 vs. 5 brackets will ultimately offer the best play experience, especially for very competitive gamers for whom game class balance issues are most noticeable. However, we recognize that many players just prefer to play in the 2 vs. 2 bracket and will miss the chance to earn the current season's gear. Therefore, we are going to still allow the 2 vs. 2 bracket to grant access to the current season of gear with three important exceptions: the current season's weapons will not be available for purchase, the current season’s shoulder armor will not be available for purchase, and players will not qualify for the Gladiator title/rewards unless you earn the appropriate rating in the 3 vs. 3 or 5 vs. 5 bracket. We look forward to the changes in the next major content patch and hope to have a great next Arena Season.

That's probably the best compromise you can get. You can still 2v2 for good gear, but the FotM comp of the season doesn't get to faceroll their way to the more prestigious awards.

Removing the titles awarded will effectively kill the bracket, as that was appearing to be the only motivation to play it at all (for nearly every level of play) after the announced gear reward removal from the 2s bracket.

Why not allow the lower tier of weapons? For somebody just starting a new character, the difference between the crafted and the first tier weapons is huge. If you're not willing to raid, you will stuck with a pretty bad weapon.

I don't know. I guess this offers some incentive, but I know 2 people that play side by side, are brothers, and just prefer to play 2's. They are very good players but just don't prefer to go beyond the bounds of 2's.
I still don't understand why they don't raise the weapon/shoulder rating by about 200. People (including me) don't just faceroll to 2050, or 2000. Just a thought.

Removing the chance to get titles is still a mixed bag. Yes it will force flavor of the month and DKs to work harder by playing 3s, but this also hurts Shadow priests and other hybrid classes who only do well in 2s.

How about this, since the weapons require a 2200 personal and team rating in season 7, just make the 2v2 scaling system harder to get 2200.

are you serious? This is even worse, by far. How can you think this is a compromise? This is pathetic. It's great that you're trying to completely ruin arenas.

Hey, 3v3 is just as much a fotm cheesefest as 2v2. RMP 30% rep in 3v3, cleave everything else.

2v2 is the most individually skill intensive bracket, 5v5 is a joke and 3v3 has all the same imbalances as 2v2 except its a zerg fest nearly as much as 5s

this is seriously the dumbest change i've ever seen blizzard make, bar none.

I don't understand how you can think this is worse unless you were previously under the impression that you were still going to be able to get titles/mounts in 2v2 before they made this change.

how is this a compromise, rofl? You mean instead of getting no gear but still getting titles we get the worthless, easy to get gear, can't get the important gear and can't get a title?

anyone who plays at RIval ratings or above this change is absolutely terrible for

Would it be possible for someone to turn off the hyperbole faucet and explain for the noobs like me exactly why this change is worse than the previous change? I honestly do not follow that logic and would like to understand. This seems up front to be a good compromise - what about it is worse?

Okay, that helps. I was under the impression that the previous plan was no titles, no gear. Why are the titles and mounts better than at least some gear?

why would I not be? The original change only said gear, it didn't say anything about titles,

This SUCKS for DK and Druid tanks, whose best tanking weapons are from Arena.
