It's currently useful for a few Frost DPS cycles.

Some of which may carry on into 3.2 with DW.

Q: Where do death knights fit into the larger scope of things currently and where do you see them going from this point forward?

Ghostcrawler: Death knights are the only current Hero class, which means they are supposed to be the best class in the game.

No, no, I mean that death knights are an anti-magic tank, which means you bring them out for fights like Hydross and curb them for Patchwerk.

I jest again,

Omg Ghostcrawler my man, you made me literally LOL IRL right at the start of the Q&A lol... :D Brilliant ! :D

Much love <3

Community Team: Death Knights think that only a few players choose Will of the Necropolis because of the proc condition, internal cooldown, and so forth.

Q: Is there any plan to improve Will of the Necropolis?

Ghostcrawler: There was a brief window where this talent was totally overpowered because it just added so much opportunity for a death knight getting beat on to survive. It’s possible we over-nerfed it, but you have to be careful with talents like this. As soon as it slides from “only a few choose to take it” to “most choose to take it” then there’s another talent that is being skipped over.

...SERIOUSLY?!

This was a question in our Q&A?

Every Blood Tank worth their salt takes Will of the Necropolis, its practically a required talent in the Blood tree for raid tanking!

30% is not enuff. Imagine having a 70% chance to crit. Prolly seem like your critting ALL the time.

Imagine you HAD to have crippling poison up and mind numbing all the time (not auto applied anymore) to do good damage. Prolly ##%! brix.

Q u o t e:
Q: How do we feel about the current viability of dual-wielding? Are there plans to improve it or have it fit a specific role for the class?

Ghostcrawler: This is a controversial topic because we realize some players just aren’t interested in dual-wielding (or seeing any death knights even do it), while others love the faster strikes that come with it. Our design has always been that dual-wielding should be an option, but that also means that it can’t take over, as it often does for classes in which we provide the option.

This kind of confused me a bit.

They say they don't want dual wielding to take over for the spec yet a fury warrior is a pure dual wielding spec.I fail to see what the problem is if the frost tree becomes the Death Knights dual wield spec. They still have the Blood and Unholy trees which are still primarily the two handed spec's.

Same with Enhancement Shamans. This to me has always been based around the dual wielding setup and melee based fighting.I may be wrong on this as I have not played a Shaman much.Again I fail to see why they would make a big deal of Frost becoming the Death Knight dual wield spec.

So you admit that it was "totally Overpowered", then you gave the same thing to Paladins.... Hmmm see a problem???

Q u o t e:

Ghostcrawler: Almost all of the top raiding guilds considered the death knight to be overpowered as a tank and the only real option for many of the Ulduar hard modes. While the community isn’t always right about everything, they are right a lot, and in this case we think the evidence is overwhelming. We wanted to make the cooldowns the unique part of death knight tanking, and we haven’t given up on that design, but it has also turned out that having lots of powerful cooldowns is just an extremely potent way to tank. Many of the Naxx and Ulduar bosses were dangerous from predictable blasts of damage on cooldowns longer than the death knight ones. Plus the cooldowns could be used to survive just a bit longer. When the other tanks could survive two hits, the death knight could survive three. It’s entirely possible you’ll see Icebound Fortitude on a two-minute timer in the 3.2 patch. I want to reiterate though that our vision hasn’t changed -- we still want death knights to be able to tank every encounter. Rather than posting in the forums that you are now doomed and will have to reroll, help us get the death knights in a place where they are an attractive option but not the clear best option on most fights.

How are DK's a "cooldown" tank when our cooldowns are now effectivly worse than the other tanks. Our cost resources, and provide essentialyl the exact same benifit.

When you combine the above to all the other changes with DK's, its fairly obvious that you have made DK's by far the worst tank in teh game. Two posts have been made to show how big the gap is. We have been trying to help you like you are asking. However we have not even heard a peep form you guys.

Hard to maintain faith, when you post something like this, that says "we want cooldowns to be a unique part of DK tanking", yet go on to make our cooldowns identical to all teh other tanks. The only way this would be even close to true would be if our 2m CD"s were on a 1m timer.. Then perhaps it would make sense. However that has not happend.

When looking at which class was to be discussed next it seems that by "warlock" they meant "death knight".

Warlocks are still being worked on, but they won't be much longer, we figured players would rather see something that was done instead of waiting longer.

It was useful for 2H Frost, as most PvE DPS rotations revolved around it.

Q u o t e:
Community Team: A good number of non-death knight players are concerned regarding the healing capability of death knights, especially in the PvP setting, where they can often survive for extended periods of time with no healer and still do lots of damage.

Q: Do we have plans to change any of the death knight’s self-healing abilities?

Ghostcrawler: The healing is one of the core mechanics of the class, and one of the things that helps them feel distinct from warriors. It’s the reason there is a Blood tree and Blood Runes. We have no immediate plans to change anything here. If death knights continue to be good at PvP even after some of the defensive nerfs, we’d likely look at say Chains of Ice, the interrupts or the amount of non-physical damage they can do.

Straight from the horse's (crab's?) mouth. They don't want Death Knights to be good at PVP.

Q: Will ghouls ever get their voices back?

Ghostcrawler: We have a long-term plan to add the ghoul voices back. We pulled them because they were using the vendor voices, which sounded weird when your ghoul would ask you to buy or trade. We just need to get some audio made without the vendor text. It’s in the plan, but not super high priority.

Gotta love this question and its humor, lol. It's still making me chuckle every now and then about the voice of my ghoul. :P

In conclusion, Ghostcrawler and the Team, this is a very well done Q&A. One of my favorites so far (not because I have a Death Knight tho :P).

If I may have only 1 suggestion: I hope you, the Dev Team and Blizzard as a whole stop giving in to the Death Knight crybabies and QQ-ers. We are already a much powerful class and we got some of the best quests in the game, and as you said, blues and a mount right when we started. We love the Rune System, we love the new playstyle, we love all 3 trees and the amazing capabilities they bring. We love all the spells and the graphic. The list could go on and on. :) Not counting the lore importance that we play in this expansion, I honestly I think that's enough for us :) Being a Hero class, that's all we need. We don't need to be Demigods. Please take your time to fix the class as much as possible so that we are not overpowered anymore.

Many QQ-ers and crybabies already come here today to cry in this thread, and many more will come. But trust me, Ghostcrawler, there are still many of us decent and courteous Death Knights out there, and we appreciate every single of your effort to make the class and the game better. :)

I'd like to finish this post with a big Thank You to Ghostcrawler, the Dev Team and Blizzard. :)

Can't wait to 3.2 ^^

with the exception that DKs start at lvl 55, the Death Knight class (in my opinion) has gone from a hero class to the same as any other class.

Isn't that the goal? I never got the memo that DKs were designed to be better than every other class.
