what is gear score?

with ToC 5 gear scores are kinda outdated...

After reading both his posts I'm actually confused is he implying that everyone else is a noob in this whole world and that he is the only one in the whole world that knows how to spec and play every character he actually gets to 80?


Just curious kind of confused after reading it.

What the hell is gear score? I've never heard of this. Is it something to do with what all of your gear's iLevels are combined?

me neither but i did a simple google search and found some wow hero website that has a "gear score" it shows all your gear, enchants, and achievements.

according to this website i have a "2350" gear score.

Sorry...I quoted only the parts of your passage that I thought were relevant to my thoughts about wow-heroes and the type of people that use it.

You can't measure someone's skill. ever. You control what you can, which is to limit people with poor gear for two reasons. 1) They won't hold their own weight or 2) They're looking to use your pug or guild as a free ride for better gear. Either way if you are given the option of a poorer or higher geared player who are both complete strangers to you, you go with the better geared 100% of the time.

Gear score essentially replaces your level. Why don't level 5's run stockades, why don't level 75's run ToC. Their level is too low. Content up to heroics are level dependent, your level has to be a certain level, you can get by with lower but someone else needs to help pick up the slack.

Raid content loses that level dependency, since everyone's 80. At this point the dependency switches to Gear, so you need to check Gear. If you are bashing on people checking gear score, then you can never filter out low levels for instanced levelling content.

Gear score is stupid. Not all BiS is highest iLvl. It's a flawed tool of judgement. Essentially your penalizing people for gearing for max use instead of blindly replacing gear with higher iLvl regardless if it's an upgrade or not. Whoever came up with it should be curb stomped for helping make the already idiot masses of this game even worse.

More over, how did all you mouth breathers make it without gear scores? I mean so many are so dependent on them its ludicrous. I can't fathom how you dimwits function in raids, I really, really can't.

My GS is about 4500, 2400 on wowheroes, and I've never set foot in a 10 or 25man in wolk. There are a lot more casual people who don't take this game seriously complaining about not being carried, than there are jerks not accepting capable players into pug raids...

I suppose it might help healers figure out whether or not they can cast faster than you can die.

Lets be honest here......... PvE in this game is 90% know how and maybe 10% gear.

If you know the fight, you can do it in blues.

Someone with a high gear score and no idea how the fight works will die every time.

If I can't tell they're using the correct gear for this through Gear Score number then this needs to be fixed right nowzzzzz. I demandz nothing less than 9000 for normal TFA.

You know I keep reading examples like this, but I've only known two players...in 5 years...who actually play better than better-geared players.

Then again, anyone who really is a good player no matter their gear, won't really have a problem finding groups.

The author is already working on 3.1 release which will evaluate the effectiveness of the gear stats you are wearing for the spec you are running.

Healers with hit, and other sech wasted stats will hold a less then 100% score, then effectively killing the chance for people to put on innapropriate gear of a higher ilvl.
