There's a couple Youtube videos of them now, which you can see they are not - currently - bind on pickup. The squire/gruntling upgrade also appears to be an upgrade which you use on your current squire/gruntling that grants him new abilities.

The videos are currently posted on the mainpage of worldofraids.com.

Q u o t e:

We've been through this multiple times, but here it is again:
125 - 9 that are not available in the US = 116
(Essence of Competition, Tiny Red Dragon, Tiny Green Dragon, Lucky, Golden Pig, Silver Pig, Lurky, Gurky and Poley)

116 - 4 that are special event only = 112
(Murky, Mini-Tyrael, Battle-Bot and Murkimus)

112 - 5 that are TCG only = 107
(Dragon Kite, Ethereal Soul Trader, Rocket Chicken, Hippogryph Hatchling and Bananas)

107 - 5 that are CE only = 102
(Frosty, Netherwhelp, Panda Cub, Mini-Diablo, Zergling)

102 - 4 that are no longer available = 98
(Clockwork Rocket Bot, Baby Blizzard Bear, Vampiric Batling, Spirit of Competition)

98 - 1 that is faction exclusive = 97
(Argent Squire/Argent Gruntling)

97 pets are currently available to every player within the game.

Now, you could argue that the Battle Bot is available currently because anyone can merge to a battle.net account and go subscribe to the Mtn Dew site. While they could, many do not want to and/or don't want to bother with it.

You could also argue that the Spirit of Competition will be available next olympics. It may be, or we may get a Maple Leaf or an Olympic Beaver, we don't know. Since we won't find out until the 2010 games, we can't count the spirit as available.

Your estimate would be wrong, see above.

Plus, getting to 100 will still be hard due to the stupid low drop rates on many of them.

Adding 9 (8 plus the new AT one) makes it 106 pets available to both horde and alliance.

We could subtract a further 4 (since you can only get 2 children's week pets a year) which brings it down to 102. It's also possible that the gorloc/wolvar children's week pets won't be available until next year, and that you can only get one of those a year, which would drop it down to 101 that are available in a reasonable time frame (with reasonable being defined as one holiday cycle).

I'm also making the assumption that the 8 pets (which are sure to include the gorloc/wolvar cubs) don't also include 3 Northrend children's weeks worth of pet choices.

Even with that, it's reasonable to add a 100 pet achievement with 3.2 (or soon after) because 3.2 will make 100 pets available to all players for the first time.

Those of us who are currently over 100 are long time players and we've probably also spent outside resources to acquire pets.

*edit* fixed a couple pet names
*edit2* fixed the numbers because apparently math is hard. :P

you forgot to also minus another 2 for the Eng only pets. sucks to lvl eng get the schematic make and learn the pets then drop back to ur original profession

That's not really the applicable here. Both of those pets are in the game and there is a manner of obtaining them, which is what this 100 pet achievement argument is typically over. If you want them bad enough, they are there for the taking.

Q u o t e:
Plus I hate to see gold scammers trying to make money off adorable little pets, nothing worse than that really.

Yeah, me too. If these are BoE, then they'll be camped to heck so peeps can post them for ridiculous prices, and the pet collectors with more money than sense will buy them, which the rest of us either try to camp them or just pine away waiting for the prices to drop far enough that we have a shot at the camp.

Of course, even if they are BoP I fear there will be some jerks that will either try to sell the spawn by tapping the mob and then hanging out while it does little to no damage to them, or kill them anyway just to be jerks.

Q u o t e:
These older vanilla spawns have timers from 4-6 hours, I believe. They are generally not as severe waits as the Outland and Northrend rares can be.

My hope is that they're changed to be like the Strider Clutchmother, which is a rarespawn that doesn't seem to be on a timer. It's just an actual rare spawn. kill striders enough and one will pop.

I don't want to repeat what I had to do to get Humar for my hunter back in the day. :p

Q u o t e:

The pets require Engineer to learn/make, but don't require engineer to use once you've learned them. So if you level engineering to get them, and then learn them, they're part of your collection and you're all set.

Unlike the engineering mounts which require engineering to use, but they do remain in your mount list and count toward your number.

So, it's not unreasonable to list these as being acquirable by everyone. Though that point is debatable because not everyone would be willing to drop a profession to learn Engi...

Add more Tiny Whelpling pets! Four just isn't enough!

So I'm wondering what the Razzashi Hatchling is going to be like to farm. I suppose Zul'Gurub is somewhat soloable at this point (at least the raptors should be), but I would certainly hope the drop rate is not of the whelp scarcity, given these are still elites :P

Also, my personal guess for the others that are off rares is that they will also be a low drop off any of those raptors in the area. The rare is sort of a 100% shortcut if he's up ;) Of course, that is just a guess on my part.

ZG is pretty easy at this point, at least the regular mobs anyway. There is really only one section that has many raptors in it so I wouldn't think they'd make the drop rate too low, since it cannot simply be reset after all. They'll respawn eventually... but yeah, I'm hoping maybe it's more like the phoenix hatchling... then again the Scorchling pet was a low drop off a (formerly) high level boss that was only around 2 weeks of the year. So yeah... who knows what they'll be doing with that.

I actually forgot about respawning. Yeah that could be an annoyance. I suppose you'd have to kill them all then zone out for a half an hour for the instance to soft reset before you repeat? Hopefully the drop rate is high enough :P

I also kind of wonder if Bloodlord would also drop it with maybe a higher (100%?) drop rate.

At some point we will likely add another achievement for more of the pets and also for mounts, but we don't plan to add them every patch or two that we add new pets/mounts.

We're not (well, some of us aren't) asking for an acheivement every time you add new pets/mounts. We're only asking because you've added oodles of pets (and thank you for that) so quickly that it puts us at the next logical milestone so rapidly after the last achievement was added.

Pet achievements: 1, 10, 25, 50, 75 expecting 100, 150 &ct.

Mount achievements: 1, 10, 25, 50, (missing 75?), 100 expecting 150 &ct.

*edit* though I wouldn't argue if you added enough cute critters to bring a collection to 150 and gave us an achievement rewarding an orange murloc at that point...

I understand where you are coming from for sure. While we have nothing decided, it's likely that the steps between the achievements will be longer steps instead of a small steps each time we release a new set of pets.

Ooo c: Pls can it not be alliance/horde separated this next time? The whole alliance/horde color scheme is really cramping my style. I personally find the alliance colors ill-suited to my race and class. Would love to see a neutral middle again a la talbuks/netherdrakes.

100 is a more logical place to go with the next achievement than any other achievable or achievable in the foreseeable future number.

125, while a larger number, does not have the same impressive, milestone ring to it that ONE HUNDRED pets does. It's the first time you hit triple digits!

The next logical step isn't until all the way at 150, and there's a distinct possibility that won't be achievable until the next expansion.

Not to mention, so help me if you make me wait 75 pets and an entire expansion in between achievements for my obsession :|

I agree, they really have to do 100 pets. It would be bizare to go 25, 50, 75, and then skip over 100 :P Plus at this point it will be quite awhile until any other milestone is doable, let alone feasable (will there even be 125 pets total in 3.2? I think we'll be just short of that... or maybe it will be possible with *every* pet in the game, which is again, unrealistic).

After 100, sure, wait until 150 or something. That's fine.

Yeah, I don't see how you guys can logically skip over 100. We're certainly not asking for 25 pet increases every time, but surely you all know that the number 100 is just one of those milestone numbers you do not skip. If you don't add the achievement soon however, I fear it won't be added because it will become too simple to obtain 100 at some point. Even in patch 3.2, assuming this was made an achievement, I think it will end up being easier to obtain than the 75 pet achievement was pre-3.1.

I'm all for skipping 125 though.

I don't really mind the skipping, as long as its a logical challenge for whatever the attainable amount is at the time of release. Thanks for letting us know that it is intended to add more though, even if it isn't in the soonest upcoming patch.

This really isn't a major issue, though. If people are willing to wait until it really is that easy to get 100 pets, then it they are likely to be waiting until the new high-end achievement is set at 150 or so, which might not even happen before the next expansion. Even with the numerous new pets coming in 3.2 it still takes some effort to cross the 100 mark, and there is no guarantee that there'll be another big batch of pets added in the Icecrown patch.

As for the 100 pet reward, if they don't want to add another pet, they can always give collectors the "Zookeeper" title instead. ^_^

I have 110 pets and I would accept nothing less than another! The Zookeeper title in addition~ to my new (unarmored baby orange murloc named Qurky) pet would be fine, but I demand a pet at the least! :3
