0. Voice Chat has been removed from PTR 09/18/2007 10:20:38 PM PDT
At 7 PM pst today, voice chat was removed from the PTR. There is a blue post on the test realm forums explaining that the intent is to re-implement it later this week after some internal testing..but...........
maybe they are going to scrap / delay until after ZA patch??

Voice Chat is the big feature of 2.2. I know a lot of people are indifferent about it (Or outright hate it. . .), but they aren't going to release a content patch without the focus feature.

"Temporarily disabled" does not mean "removed" (since all the code is still in the client).
There is some server hardware/software shuffling going on, which affects the servers that provide the voice chat service.
Please note that we have the capability of selectively activating and/or deactivating voice chat on all or a chosen subset of WoW servers as needs require.

Hmm for the voice chat initial rollout realms (like Sentinels) does that mean server bounces and server downtimes - if after the initial launch it turns out there is some critical performance or stability issue that could not be foreseen or accounted for until things went into the production servers?

2) Please make Precision work like Nature's Guidance.
3) Please replace Spell Warding with a talent that increases the effect of auras for self only.

Give us the bug fixes and game patch. Don't let this Voice stuff hold up the patch please.

Separating the patch out into pieces will likely delay it further.
They appear to be very, very close to release from what they're indicating.

That would be to much like blizzard doing something the community wants. Game improvements before ridiculous e-peen features is really asking too much.

Please keep in mind that we are approaching this patch with all due care and consideration for the possible issues that may come up. As you can see in the sticky post at the top of the forum, we do have a plan for implementation and a part of that plan is being very cautious to watch for what issues are affected by the new sound system implementations and what issues are affected by the Voice Chat.
Being able to disable the Voice Chat let's us take a look to see if the issue is with one or the other easily and identify problems much quicker so that they can be taken care of.
For those that work on their own computers now and then, it's much like taking out a part here or there to see if it is the source of the problem or if it is something else.

The VoIP stuff isn't holding up the patch. The transition to a Windows Vista compatible sound library (for all sound, not just for VoIP) is holding up the patch. This was done completely independently of VoIP, VoIP could have been implemented on the old sound library. However, Windows Vista compatibility was given a high priority, and both changes were done at once.

I still don't think they can disconnect the new audio subsystem from select realms though.
The new voice chat uses it, but I'm fairly certain basic ingame sound does as well.
Something tells me this fact may hold us up some.
