It's a terrible, terrible idea and fails if you think it out logically. First I'd like to say that I agree that the calibur of weapons gotten through arena should be limited in some way. However, there is no way to impliment a rating requirement correctly.

If you require a rating to purchase the items, everyone will buy onto a sufficiently rated team to get them if they can't get to 1900 themselves. Essentially, you haven't stopped any of the low rated teams to get the items but you've cost less skilled players a significant chunk of gold and effort.

If you require a rating to use the items, you'll essentially require those players to have 2 sets of weapons in case their rating might dip or they want to change teams.

I'm not that great of a pvp'er. In all likelihood I'll never be above 1900. Despite that, I would love to see the greatest arena teams rocking out with exceptional gear. They've earned it and it's actually something rare. You're either burdening the less skilled players or burdening the more skilled players. You REALLY need to recognize the fact that players buy their way onto successful teams all the time. If you burden the less skilled players, you've done NOTHING to limit the opportunity to get these weapons.

From Blue poster Bornakk:

"We have stated that there will be a minimum rating required to use the season 3 weapons. The rating required has not been finalized and any additional details will have to wait until we are closer to the start of the new season.

Keep in mind that we do plan to give at least two weeks of advance notice for when season 3 will begin so everybody can be prepared. "

So Madrhetoric,
We don't know exactly what the rating is going to be, or how exactly it will work. But don't worry to much, I have faith that Blizzard will come up with a good strategy to implement the requirement. And no I'm not kissing up here. They've been around for a long time, they know what they are doing, and when they do make mistakes, and nobody is perfect, they fix them. Be patient and give them time to finalize things and get it correct.

Yield to temptation; it may not pass your way again.

They haven't finalized anything, but what other options are there? "We have stated that there will be a minimum rating required to use the season 3 weapons." Besides having the rating be an equip requirement or being a purchase requirement, what other way could they do it? I assume Blizzard wants people to feel free to leave teams and to make new teams as much as they like. If so, there's no good way to implement this. Looking at the only two possibilities, neither works.

I understand.
But that won't fix people from buying arena teams, they would have to totally rework how points are earned.
Thus, screwing over most people.
All in all, the arena 1900 rating req is just a bad idea. (It dosen't allow the lesser skilled players even come close to be able to beat the higher skilled players, because they can't access the same weapons.. Thus they're gonna continue to get OWNED.. every single time.) Looks like Blizz really thought this one out, didn't they?

From a PVEer perspective there has to be some way to control who gets these weapons.

Remember when they changed PVP awards from Rank to spending honor points? All the sudden entire guilds could farm AV for a few weeks and then go one shot everything in MC and BWL.

Season 3 awards are going to be greater than weapons in SSC and TK in most likelyhood.

Any restrictions they place are simply to balance the grey area between PvP and PvE.

Also why should a sucky player be able to farm Arena's for a few weeks and get an awesome weapon? They should be reserved for the best PvPers IMO.

Except you forgot the !*** players will be playing the other !*** players while the pros play other pros.

Idiot.

you amaze me.

the only way they're going to get better is if they have access to BETTER!!!! gear.

idiot.

PvP combines not only Skill, but Gear as well.. you can have the best skilled player in the world in greys, compete against a complete noob in blues. and the best skilled player is gonna find himself wtfpwned.

It's an unfair advantage to those, who have skill starting fresh with low resilience, who are highly capable of earning that rating, but when they get close, they have to fight people with 1900 + weapons that overpower them.

It's a SLAP IN THE FACE to bad arena teams everywhere.
And yes, I know I have a 1200 rating. What do you wanna do, fight about it? Cos it's obvious I'd just lose that fight too.

We're sorry that people who don't rightfully deserve Black Temple/Hyjal quality epics aren't getting it handed to them on a platter. If you really wanted to put those weapons to use you'd smarten up, learn to PLAY, find a decent arena team set up, and then deserve them.

Arena (on a degree much higher than BGs) is a skill-based PvP venue. It only follows that those who can exhibit the necessary skill should reap the rewards, and those who can't (myself included) do not deserve them.

If people want the weapons badly enough to pay higher ranking teams for them, let them. It's their time and gold, and I could care less what they do with it. It's still better than the essentially free epics we get now.

You will only need a specific rating to purchase the items, it won't be required for their use. If you hit 1900 (for instance, this isn't a final number by any means) you'll be able to purchase and use the items, and if you dip below that you won't be able to buy them, but you'll be able to continue using those you've already purchased.

We're also well aware that this could potentially encourage players to join higher rated teams for a chance to obtain the items, and at later time we'll be discussing the solution coming that will prohibit it.

Hell, If I can find afew decent pvpers on my pve realm than anyone can. Arenas is like anything, get your group and practice and you can move up in ranks eventually. People with S3 weaps isnt gunna be a instant loss for teams without them.. this is obvious because believe me, your gunna fight teams better geared then you when you do arenas.. if you try hard enough you will win some.

Mistake, imo.

all you are doing is discouraging players in the arena, who are trying to get their rating high enough to compete against the teams with those weapons.. and when they finally get the chance, they get owned by weapons far superior to their own.
