How exactly are Death Knights supposed to be worked into WoW Lore?

Looking beyond the fact that it's supposed to be a Paladin-exclusive (or nearly so) advanced class, we'd be playing a 'servant of the Lich King' as a faction who is entirely against him (The Lich King). Does anyone else see the problem?

Orc, Troll, Tauren, Forsaken, Sin'dorei... I make no racial reservations. You're all equally as worthless to me.

Look, us warlocks, whom all cry about, obviously decided to get together and create another class that other people can cry about with.

Thus we created, the DeathKnight. To replace the tanking/dps warrior.

Everyone knows that, nobody cares about the lore!

Blame Canada.

Because the quest line is supposed to involve freeing a death knight from the lich kings grasp

If that's the case, it makes a little more sense, I guess.

It still doesn't account for the fact that the Lich King is supposed to be the source of their power, so without him would they not have reverted to their former Warrior / Paladin selves?

EDIT: I backed my claim with WoWs own lore, thanks. Feel free to read the thread before you flame.

your a noob sorry please read your facts if u read lore DEATH KNIGHT"S are not just FALLEN PALADINS deathknights our givien there power by the lich king and usually fall to his will because they have a runeblade which allows the lich king to mess with your mind like it did to arthas

and i think all this death knight = fallen paladin started wiht arthas orginal death knights were fallen knights of stormwind or some human race that orc's sacraficed other orcs so there spirits would take the body and lich king was made by burning legion so makes sence DK's are with him

The very idea that the Alliance accepts a Death Knight into its ranks is completely absurd.

1) The Death Knight Teron Gorefiend is responsible for countless human deaths beyond the Dark Portal.

2) The Death Knight Arthas Menethil is responsible for the destruction of the Kingdom of Lordaeron and the murder of King Terenas, countless Lordaeron citizens, and the Paladins of Lordaeron. Arthas also lead Illidan the Betrayer to the Skull of Gul'dan, in Felwood, which also brought about unnecessary death in the years after the Battle of Mount Hyjal.

Fix your lore Blizzard. First you allow evil Warlocks to join the Alliance, then Shaman, and now Death Knights. The Alliance in World of Warcraft is everything I fought against in Warcraft 2.

*edit and oh then we have the "Noble Tauren" siding with Undead Forsaken? Give me a break.

Whoa. It's going to be hard to put you, Sylvannes, in your place since I can't understand half of the gibberish you tried to type. I'll do my best.

(1) As the only WLK trailer in existence right now indirectly elaborates on Arthas and his Death Knights, we're going to assume we will not be playing the older, now extinct, Horde Death Knights.

(2) If this is true, then so to must be the stories of Paladins who ventured into Undead / Scourge territory to help whatever they could, after the fall of the Silver Hand, only to find themselves overwhelmed with hatred, grief and a lusting for power, all of which where satisfied by the Lich's granting of Unholy powers.

(3) To back the Paladin-exclusive remark, I will say this:
Paladins were and still are immune to disease (such as the plague of undeath) and as such would not have been converted when in Scourge territory, such as they were. Warriors, the simple brawlers had no such resistance, meaning had they gone to the place where these Paladins were receiving their powers they could/would have been easily marked forevermore as a Forsaken.

This was discussed at the Lore & Quest panel at BlizzCon a little while back. The idea is that a character goes to become a Death Knight, is trained as a Death Knight, but then realizes they doen't want to go through with the evil acts they are instructed to perform. So the character finds a new Alliance or Horde home who accept them as a necessary evil (like warlocks) to help them fight their enemies.

BlizzCon happened at the beginning of August and the story continues to be worked on so things could change quite a bit from now until the Death Knights are implemented. Details on this and many other things will become available as we get closer to launching Wrath of the Lich King.

That seems like it may work. However, the lore says that the Death Knights of late are bound to the will of the Lich. Is that not one of two reasons the Alliance shunned away the Forsaken? What would you have them do to similarily controlled people, who're instead of deformed, super powered Evildins?

So in Death Knight training camp they can all speak the same language and train together, but suddenly when they leave they are unable to converse with each other anymore?
