Actually, I kind of like this idea. Maybe tie in the new forms when you get Dire Bear, or something like that. It would add a visual implication of the improvements (at least for bear form) Dire bear vs regular bear form.

Or, the devs could even add a quest (gasp) at level 40ish in moonglade or some such.

No that would be like adding level requirements and extra questlines and such just to go to the barber shop to change your hairstyle.

Why would you want to punish new Druid because we've had to deal with the same forums for so long? If anything, you should be happy for them they don't have to endure like you did.

Then again, I'm a nice person...

It's not a question of being nice or not. I see it this way: When the majority of us hit 80, our gear looked horrible. I know I never showed my helm til I got my 7.5 hat. (Granted, I now hide my Sailor moon hat, but that besides the point). But once I got a cool looking helm, I immediately went into my options and displayed it. Like I said, I think adding something like this will make it feel like your character is progressing.

And heck, I'm not even thinking of making it a difficult quest. Maybe something tied into the emerald dream like in the epic flight form quest (but obviously aimed at a lvl 40 requirement..assuming it was tied in to getting Dire Bear) just to add a little bit of lore to it. Of course, this would have the side effect of letting people keep the old forms too, if they so chose.

Truth.
If you want to see differences between a level 20 and a level 80 druid, we have raid gear. Stand around in caster form. Just because we didn't get the change in time to level with it doesn't mean any new players should have to suffer through those disgusting models.

The little number near my name shows my character progressing as I level- I don't need an aesthetic change to prove it's happening. I'd rather have the nice models the whole time instead of having to unlock them at 40 or 80 or whatever.

I agree with keeping the old models for low levels. Druids should start using the art for the new Bear Form at level 10, and for the new Cat Form at level 20.

While we're at it, you can only play the game at low rez settings from lvls 1-30.

No. The sooner that the old tauren cat form is utterly wiped from existence, the better. I never want to see that model again, on my toons or anyone else's. I also feel that subjecting new druids to that form may qualify as a form of torture (hell, I nearly stopped levelling this toon at 20 after first seeing it). I cannot accept this idea for the good of all Horde, but especially all the low level druids that have done nothing to deserve the punishment of looking like that abomination.

Cat form has no upgrade. If you don't actually progress to anything new, why should we pretend progression has happened?

No, it wouldn't have that side effect. Cat form has no upgrade, and adding a quest to simply get a new appearance is pointless. Especially for those of us who never want to see that tauren cat form again, on anyone.

Bear form is not the same as Dire Bear form. Nor can you choose to turn into Bear form once you know Dire Bear form.

Bear Form http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=5487

Dire Bear Form http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=9634

Unless you mean every druid who wants the new forms must go perform this newly added quest. Though I feel the devs may view adding a quest change for a purely cosmetic effect wouldn't be a reasonable use of resources.

Thank you for telling me what I already know.

I chose the lvl 40 mark arbitrarily because it's really the only time that ANY of our forms gets a direct, level specific upgrade. I'm aware that cat form never sees an upgrade (though, let's be honest, cats really get their claws at lvl 75 with SR, but that's neither here nor there).

And you're right. The devs may not want to go to the trouble of putting in a quest. I guess I was just spoiled with the epic FF quest line and it's awesomeness. (Note that I'm not advocating something to that extreme. Just something as simple as a "Go here, talk to this guy, maybe enter a phased emerald dream sequence with an easy goal, and gain a better understanding of your control of shapeshifting."

Of course, tying it all together to link with hair/skin color is another story. but I think a short quest to get the ability to change is a bit more interesting than just going to the barber shop.

Of course, maybe I'm just bitter at how lackluster the new forms seem. Maybe once we see more than just a 2d image they'll look a bit nicer.

I like the idea of having the old form for the lower levels, I think a very small visit to moonglade around 40 would be a great idea, I have both an ally and horde druid. just something to see some type of progression of kitty, at lvl 80 i look just like a lvl 10, even if it was a stop-gap to something better.
