Odds are this decision is not because of coding complexities (though I can think up a few that are quite possible), but is instead a design / logistics decision.

A black furred tauren becoming a white furred bear while giving you more customization really doesn't make as much sense as becoming a black furred bear and could cause some initial confusion from your raid members. Granted these are weak arguments but most likely why it's this way.

From what I can tell it's just new skins on the same old models. Can my bear at least learn to shut his flytrap of a mouth? I'd rather have my bear and cat be independent of each other and my hair, so I don't just have to pick one bear/cat... what if I want to be a brown bear and a white cat?

I love it! So if it's based on hair color....I will be a green bear? PLEASE LET ME BE A GREEN BEAR!

i think the current tauren cat form should still be available for an option...that way, if you have a tauren druid family member, you could revert him back to the present hideousness and stealth him naked into the ironforge AH, then log him out.

Why the un-love for the new druid forms? I understand, you would like to see a complete overhaul, that all the models will look exactly as you envisioned them. But seriously, they don't look bad. They look better than what we have (no offense to original designers of bear model, but it got old looking at the same rear end tanking things for the longest time).
I understand people want gear to show up, that we get to show our "uberness" with the gear we've acquired. We aren't getting that right now. We are getting a step away from the same designs we've had. Everyone has an opinion of what the druid forms should look like or be; we aren't going to get our own personal choice as to how our gear will be displayed. Blizzard is not Burger King where 'you have it your way' (I question BK's slogan after countless order gone wrong...getting chicken fingers when I ordered a whopper...).
I suppose the whiners are people who are going to be sour even if they got everything they wanted, and that the millions of other druids who actually see this as a plus rather than a minus will rejoice. So to the ones with complaints about how they look, please QQ somewhere else and stop ruining the moment for all us other druids who are happy for a change. It isn't a perfect system, nor the perfect models. But when has the world ever been perfect? Should we expect a game to be perfect, when we can't make our own world perfect? Food for thought...I'm going to go munch on this while I eat my lunch...*nom nom*

Neth, thanks for clarifying a few things. One concern I have is that I have had black tauren skin, black horn and black mane since I started playing many years ago. It gives my druid its character. It will basically mean I will be stuck in whatever color bear form you'll assign to that cow colors, right? I really do not want to change my tauren appearance to find some good bear colors. :(

In other news, Blizzard please do not link hair color and Druid Form art. I say this because how I customize my hair color shouldn't determine what Druid Forms I have. :(

In fact, why barber shop it? Why not just have the Druid spirits in Moonglade have five options to select which form you want once trained? Seems simpler. :)

Please say there is something else in the works other than a little model update and re-skin... say you're working on more customization for a display update in forms to show differences between druids with different gear!

There are plenty of roleplayable excuses of why to have different colors for different forms; things that add to the lore of one's character. When in doubt, it just looks cool. And it offers a sliver of the customization we've been hoping for.

It's like saying all NE hunters should have cats/owls for pets, orcs can only have wolves/vultures... you get the idea. I hate to go back to the old "they have more than we do and theirs is just a pet" complaint, but... You're giving us new colors... but we can't have them unless we dye our hair pink?
