6/16/09- A new Q&A is now available here- http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=17779501442&sid=1

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first ever Blizzard Entertainment Global Writing Contest is now complete!

We would just like to say how impressed we are by the overwhelming number of high-quality entries we received. Ranging from epic to earnest and hilarious to horrific, your stories conveyed true devotion, passion, and insight. The judges went through several rounds before selecting the finalists, but in the end only the big man himself, Chris Metzen, could choose the winning entry. We would like to thank all of the contest entrants for the time and effort that they put into their stories. It is always a pleasure to see our fans demonstrate their immense creativity and talent!

The grand prize winner will be flown to Blizzard Entertainment headquarters to meet the Blizzard creative writing staff, and will be the owner of a brand new shiny (and pointy) Frostmourne replica sword by Epic Weapons.

Thank you again to everyone who entered! We'll be posting select stories and excerpts on our website in the weeks ahead, so stay tuned to share in these truly inspiring stories.

Grand Prize Winner!

Congrats to the winners! Can't wait to read them!

Question: Is it okay to post our entries for others to read now?

Oi, get a link up to the stories :)

Please give WoW an option to resize individual windows (frames) LARGER so that all of us can read it (currently the collective interface can only be made smaller).

Question regarding the non-winning stories:

We had to give up all rights to those stories in order to sibmit them. To the rights revert back to the authors now?

I'd like to rework, polish, expand, etc. mine, but can't right now as have signed all control over it to Blizzard via the contest. I am hoping the contest being over means that the rights for the non-winners revert back to the authors, so work can continue on those stories?

Or should we just consider those stories dead now?

My guess is that they required you to give up all rights to the story to protect themselves from being sued in the event that they end up developing something similar.

So I think it's doubtful that they will return ownership, but you could ask for permission to use it.

Always disappointing not to win, but getting an honorable mention is still pretty nice. Grats to the winners.

I'll probably rewrite mine and sumbit it for the next contest, assuming I don't come up with a better idea in the meantime.

My only regret is there was a lot of badass in my story that probably will never see the light of day now. Oh well, was a great story to write. Congrats to everyone that got a nod.
