0. Bestiary Update - The Fallen Ones 05/22/2009 10:45:58 AM PDT
The Diablo III bestiary has been updated with a demon family you may recognize - The Fallen Ones!
"When unleashed upon our realm by their master, Azmodan, these impish terrors display a tendency to swarm like flesh-hungry locusts, and they have been known to tear apart a sleeping village in minutes. Small of stature and simian in appearance, these creatures possess surprising strength and unnatural agility. Other than feasting on human flesh, the only act that gives these unspeakable horrors pleasure is breeding; hence the tendency to encounter them in large packs."

Looking good, Bishibosh would approve...
One note though - on these and other monsters, one thing that would really liven them up would be if they didn't all have precisely the same weapon. In a game with 3D assets it surely wouldn't be that hard to let the little imps use any of a couple of weapons, using the basic models for dagger, etc that would already be used by players. Nothing hurts immersion like legions of perfectly identical enemies.
(Varying the size a shade wouldn't hurt either... I never understood why 3D modeled games don't spawn enemies with, say, a randomized 10% variation in vertical scale. Doesn't cost anything, and that way when a bunch of them clump up it doesn't look like such an ocean of conformity. But what do i know?)

Ah good to see the little buggers are returning. The expanded lore is pretty cool, even if it slightly disagrees with the portrayal in D1. (Listed as minions of Baal in D1 manual)
Then you see what cannot be,
Shadows move where light should be.
Out of darkness, out of mind,
Cast down into the Halls of the Blind."

I think that's why they include the bit about Goatmen in the beginning. Sort of like saying 'Hey, This is why some bits of lore are changing!'
Also, my favorite cannon fodder just got expanded on. Approve Bishibosh does.
All my years of brawling, of pummeling both the unsuspecting and the deserving, have yielded two insights. You can either fight or you can run. All other strategies are variations of these - Glegash
