In the next major content patch we will be removing the prismatic quality of the jewelcrafter-only Dragon’s Eye gems. Like other gems, they will have to match the socket color to receive a socket bonus. When this change occurs, players with qualifying jewelcrafting skill will be provided a yet to be determined amount of Dalaran Jewelecrafter Tokens as compensation.
Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday Zarhym! Happy Birthday to you!

This makes me less than happy.
edit: after my knee jerk reaction.
IMO this is the wrong move, JC is designed the way all professions should be. It has a nice bonus and a daily. You should really bring the other professions in line with JC, not the other way around.

Q u o t e: Grats on destroying yet another profession.
Because you lose so many stats from the three or fewer socket bonuses this change would break. Obviously, this just guts the whole profession entirely.

It isn't just the socket bonus losses, it is the meta gem activation.

Can you consider doing this somewhat differently? Such as making the gems a lot stronger but limiting them to one?
It seems kind of dumb for JCs to have less freedom with their item sockets than other professions. If I'm going for Stamina, I now can't get my profession bonus and set bonuses unless I have 3 blue sockets on my gear.

Not the loss on those socket bonuses aren't that bad... but you fail to remember most of us use those to eliminate some of the crappier colored gems to meat our meta requirements. For example, rogues and blue gem requirements. Add the loss from that agi gem to a blue gem change and the socket bonuses and it is a bit more noticeable.

hurray for jc going from the best profession to the worst overnight!
Let me explain why this is.
my 3 27 agility will now grant me 33 more agility over current 16 agi gems.
this extra agility more or less falls in line with the added bonus's given by other professions (64 ap on rings from enchanting, 64 ap to bracers from lw, etc..)
however on those im not pigeon holed into where i must socket them. Now to gain the full benefit from my "special gems" i must socket them in 3 red socket. But i dont necessarily have 3 red sockets. Im being forced to give up some bonus in order to gain the extra stats of my profession making my 33 agi bonus less useful.
(for all those that want to tell me that agi is better then ap, pretend im a warrior/pally/dk talking about strength gems, theory still holds.)

Q u o t e: Wow. Jewelcrafting was already going to take a back seat to Blacksmithing once a new rank of gems came out. This is just going to speed that up.
I guess switching from Engineering to Jewelcrafting was time well spent. Time to switch to BS.
Unless they add a new tier of JC gems along with the new tier of normal gems.
