It does by definition though. It creates more pyroblasts and reduces your mana gem usage.

I know very good mages with "8+ pieces of Ulduar gear" who don't agree with you that mana is perfectly fine, that you never need to reconjure mana gems, and that 10-minute fights are easy.

On this topic, why not just have one rank of food/water that scales with your level or health/mana pool? The current system is very clunky and annoying.

I could see this working well.

100% of maximum mana(or health) over 25 seconds.

This makes it about 4% per second.


Edit: I hated when food started to take longer to give all the health/mana back.. 30 seconds for all of it?

Sooo...where do you see mages in the grand scheme of things? Because right now we are being phased out. By their very nature, mages should be the most powerful dps class, but we aren't. I understand there needs to be balance....but we are being phased out by other classes. What uniqueness do mages bring anymore besides sub-par food, and the ability to send people to the lag capital of Azeroth after a raid?

You would assume that since we are being phased out of PvE, that surely we must have been given a boost in PvP right? Wrong....we suck there too. The "Glass cannons" we are supposed to be are more like paper water pistols now.

Oh ya, and Im confused as to what we should be expecting form this thread. Are we going to be getting answers in here, or somewhere else? And when do you estimate we will have some sort of response to our questions? (a general time frame is what Im looking for, I don't expect an exact date).

I have played both deep frost and deep arcane with a focus on PvE and raiding, and have been playing my mage as my main for 3+ years. Here's my feedback:

1) I love the class - absolutely LOVE it - but I am slowly falling out of love as I struggle to justify my DPS spot in a raid with paladins and DKs exceeding my DPS by a substantial amount, and they get plate.

A pure DPS class like mages should always be besting a hybrid class like Paladins for DPS. As others have said above, we have lost that glass cannon status. We have low survivability, and our DPS is now nothing special.

So many of the things that used to make the mage class distinct and special - AOE, snares, high DPS - you've handed out to other classes, and watered down for ours.

Why would YOU take a mage to Ulduar instead of a DPS pallie, a rogue or a DK? What do we bring to the raid that is a clear advantage for the team over choosing any other DPS class?

2) Mages should be able to conjure food and water that is at least on par with the best vendor food available in the game.

3) For wishes, I would love to see mages get some serious DOTs added to all 3 specs.

I've read a lot of the questions asked so far, and really only see a few that are kinda out there, but ill toss mine in as well, even if they have been asked already.

Big question here, when will Mage Armor glyph be changed to make it useful and actually do something? At current it is the only glyph in the game I know of that doesnt do anything at all.

Can LB please explode when the target dies? I mean honestly, why not?

Arcane DPS, I an a fan of arcane DPS, i like the way it plays, but I've been forced to play fire for higher dmg and dps. So what are the plans to up Arcane dps, will the nerf to Arcane Barrage be undone or changed to effect arcane in a better way. If there are no plans to change the spells scaling is there a plan to improve the amount of haste arcane receives as you are then required to aquire more haste to make an arcane barrageless spec possible?

I never said 10 minute fights are easy, and now you're making personal attacks. I may have misjudged; on regular modes that take overly long there is downtime but my regen has increased significantly as of late.

The discrepancy may come in when you consider the other mana dump: spell haste. Spell haste is a double-edged sword: you do more damage in less time, so it's a DPS increase, but runs your mana bar faster but doesn't lower DPM. I had a lot of haste midway through Sunwell and noticed a drop in mana longevity. Now in Wrath, I have a touch more crit than haste and notice my mana lasts as long as guildmates who may be preferring haste but also have 3/3 Meditation. Just as an FYI, I'm not preferring crit over haste, I just take what the gear gives me as so far I haven't had much choice in sidegrades, just pure upgrades.

I'm curious to see the situation myself when we do the 25-man hard modes, but I don't know when.

Why is Torment the Weak a required talent to do competitive damage?

Why are hybrids able to do competitive/more damage while having near infinite mana, ala Elemental Shaman?

As stated several times, why do we have to choose between health or mana? Both result in damage loss, ie. dead or OOM.

Mage talents in general need to be looked at, we are stuck in the past.

Whats going on with 2 out of 3 of our main nuke glyphs having negative effects, where most other classes do not have this drawback?

Evocation, it sucked in BC with bad spirit scaling, it sucks now with alot of movement/random aoe fights, what is likely to change about it? And will we ever get some reliable mana return that isn't on some absurdly long cooldown?

Has it been a concern that our damage has been low since the launch of the expansion, when the only viable PVE spec was FFB? Sure a bandaid was put on this by making more spells trigger TtW, but see the first question.

Are our extremely low health pools being looked at? I personally do not want mage gear to be stuffed with stamina and the actually damage stats fall behind, how does stamina affect the item budget and will it be adjusted?

When it comes to PvP, our survivability and our offensive abilities are both reliant on our mana pool, and that mana pool goes dry too fast, basically rendering us useless until we find some way to regain mana, which is not so viable all the time. Same problem exists for PvE, especially for arcane which is always mana hungry.

So, my question is, Why is it that mages remain the only dps class/spec that STILL has to always worry about running out of resources, rather than be like all other dps... worrying about MANAGING their resources for best possible outcome in different situations.

This is a mage question because I am a mage and it irks me, but it applies to all dps classes really... Why do the Alli get a 1% increased chance to hit from a racial and the horde has absolutely nothing of the same caliber?

Why is the Arcane tree so bloated that if we wanted to work Student of the Mind into the build for max PvE DPS that we'd have to give up both our 31 point (Slow) and 51 point (Arcane Barrage)?

Please consider these possible suggestions for unbloating the tree a bit, not all of these need to be done.

Reduce Arcane Stability to 3 points.
Reduce Clearcasting to 3 points.
Reduce Arcane Mind to 3 points.
Reduce Mind Mastery to 3 points.
Combine Arcane Shielding and Magic Attunement.
Combine Prismatic Cloak and Improved Blink.
Combine Student of the Mind and Arcane Meditation.

Why do raiding mages have the lowest health pool of all classes?

We were glass cannons, that is outdated and dps has been normalized across the board. Why did we not get added survivablility to compensate?

Why is it that mages are the only class that must make a choice between resource regen and a healthstone? I.E. why are healthstones and mana gems on the same CD?

Why is the mage class the only class to have there core/class resource regen mechanics force them to stop moving for up to 8 seconds? Sitting in the same spot for up to 8 seconds in todays raids often means a dead player.

Why is arcane so much more difficult to play while still providing inferior dps to a fire spec?

-Buff frost crit rates back to original.
-Make shatter 70 or 100%. If our dmg are balanced around it being crit then make them crit.
-make some 5 point talents 3 points

Do you plan to address Mage survivability in PvP since every class's DPS is now normalized?

Do you plan on making the way Mages do damage in PvP more easier to implement? as it stands, not counting CC, the way mages put out damage is too easily interupted or line of sighted.

Do you plan on giving Spellsteal a priority on buffs to steal first, as having to wait 4 to 5 gcds to get a Hand of Freedom for example means life and death for a mage.

Do you plan on having a better way to implement the disarming effect of Fiery Payback without the mage having to go..hey, hit me!!!?

Is it all possible since mages are a ranged class, to have more ranged abilities as opposed to having to be in melee for most of our spells to connect, such as Dragon's Breath, Blast Wave, Frost Nova, Cone of Cold?

New rank of Food and Water?

As current game mechanics are concerned, any way you would reconsider taking heal off of polymorph? You could still have it break on any damage unlike fear or hex.

Anyway to fix munching ignites?

Anyway to make Scorch add the 5% crit debuff with 1 cast baseline?

Anyway to add a 2 second immunity to snares with Blazing Speed?

Arcane Problem.

1. Why a class that without mana have such a risky spell as evocation? One hit on a place full of aoe (and most unpredictable) ruins your mana. And you don't have the choice to "waiting" for a better time, because Arcane is always on the edge of mana. Why not make evocation uninterrutable or at least some how talented into prevent pushbacks?

2. Why mana gems doesn't scale with gear?. It already only have 3 charges. Make those charges count (or remove charges at all and keep the Cooldown).

3. Glyph of Mage armor lost its purpose due to talent changes. Considering Molten Armor adds plain +crit, wich is most beneficial to fire, currently the most viable spec for raiding.
Why can't we have some sort of glyph that converts spirit into Haste?
((so we can OOM faster!))

4. I never understood why rogues that have infinite resources (energy) and have more HP can dish out that much dmg.

How does one kill he who has no life?

mage 1v1 non frost is garbage for most part.
frost /arc spec seems to do well for arena but in bgs its too slow of a spec tho u have good evasions skills. you just cant deliver that much dps vs a druid healer lets say.
