Here is my take on the issue: PvP and PvE cater to different players in the game, for the most part. This is fine, one of the things that makes WoW stand out is the many niches you can fall into and enjoy good content. One of the issues I hear about in the blue posts I read is that PvP concerns itself with being too "bursty", very often. After the latest patch, our big big burst spell got a huge nerf, whether intentional or not. I have not paid attention to the Lightning spells, because those numbers didn't stand out very much, but my Lava bursts used to hit for much more than they do now. my typical Lava burst hits for around 8k or so now, where it used to crank up around 13k. This is the only visible difference I have noticed, but my overall DPS has gone down horribly. I used to top the meters in my guild raids, and I'm sc#@%%*% for 7th place these days...and the ones topping it now are generall head and shoulders above me.

This can be in part due to other classes getting some buffs, but the LvB crits going way down and my overall DPS having suffered as well, is nothing to do with other classes. Many posters on these shammy forums are saying that they are considering going to a straight lightning bolt rotation, completely skipping the flame spells. This is not a good thing, IMO. If we were too bursty in PvP, then I can see nerfing LvB for that situation, since it's a guaranteed crit provided the flame shock doesn't get dispelled. According to the blue posts I have seen however, this did not happen.

I suggest a fix for this having to do with Lightning bolt, which is still our workhorse. You need to make sure LvB doesn't get phased out by Joe Raider of course, but buffing lightning bolt a little bit can increase our DPS more than nearly any other change. It would also be more of an increase in our sustained DPS rather than our burst damage, which means PvE suffers none while PvP gets to keep the burstiness down.

Just my take!

Okay, I haven't had time to get around to all the shaman threads to see what everybody else posted. I made some suggestions in the Totemism -- Rethinking a playstyle thread about possible solutions to the lack of totem mobility and their various set-backs. However, there is an issue I've got with the non-stacking buffs with not only our totems, but with some of our "on crit" short-term buffs.

I play an elemental shaman and find myself in the lower end of dps, despite the fact that I've got decent gear and have been working on my rotations. I've taken recent notice of a particular problem between the Moonkin Aura and the Elemental Oath, insofar as they do not stack, and Elemental Oath is completely overridden by the moonkin aura. I understand that Blizzard may have issues with stacking 10% crit in raids, but I would like to insert a possible solution that might be applied through a small hotfix patch like the most recent. Elemental Oath provides a standard buff of 5% extra crit chance with spells. However, an overlooked function is that while both Elemental Oath and the shaman Clearcasting are in effect, the shaman deals an extra 10% spell damage. Since I frequently end up in 25 man raids with a moonkin aura effecting me, this overlooked 10% extra spell damage is frequently thrown out the window. Since there may be balance issues with stacking crit, the moonkin aura would take priority for the crit, and Elemental Oath would flash as the little buff, but only apply the extra damage while the shaman clearcasting was in effect. This would give elemental shamans an edge in raid dps where they originally were marginalized.

Another issue I'm facing is that with decent gear, I only occasionally pull 3-4k dps on heroic bosses under the conditions of:

I'm standing still with no need to move.

I have Bloodlust up for most or all of its duration.

I have at least one or two buffs to increase my spell power or spell damage.

I make use of each of my cooldown abilities (Blood Fury and Elemental Mastery).

It is to be noted that this is only on heroic bosses for instances, not raids. During raids, I manage 3k dps on fewer occasions and am pushing myself to my limits to do so. While the buff to Lightning Overload has given me more frequent extra casts, it has made insignificant changes to the current output of dps from elemental shamans.

A couple other small suggestions would be:

Give Totem of Wrath a slightly buffed fire bolt like Searing Totem does.

Give shamans a targetable AoE (something similar to the warlock Rain of Fire or the mage Blizzard or Flamestrike). It would be nice if this AoE spell was frost or fire damage, since I have some issues with certain mobs being immune to nature damage (an example would be the plague quarter blobs that switch immunities. If they both switch to nature damage, I sit and stare at them, or must lose my Totem of Wrath buff to drop a magma totem. While I enjoy being versatile, I don't like to have to lose that much damage output potential for being able to do anything at all). Also... make the AoE NOT have a cooldown. Thunderstorm is rather powerful, so I understand the reason for a long cooldown. Blizzard, Flamestrike, Rain of Fire and Seed of Corruption all have no cooldown save for GCD.

Thank you for opening this thread as a place for shamans to actively suggest fixes and ideas for the class, I'm glad to see somebody out there listening. I'd like to make a reminder that I placed totem mobility suggestions in the other thread titled Totemism: Rethinking a playstyle.

Will resto shamans ever recieve any pvp talents in their trees.. The 10% health back every time your health goes below 30% is not cutting it. Can we get rid of the CD? I'd like to have a totem that removes ms effects as well. Warriors can kill without the ms effect, im sorry to say they dont need it. Either do rogues. At least give shamans resistance to ms effects cause every healer does not seem to have the same issue. Truly you have opened the flood gates, and its never going to shut.

Yeap I agree Natures Guardian used to be enough but now Its just not cutting it. Sometimes I dont even spec into it because its really not worth it in 3s since I hardly get focused. Plus I get a BoP so really no need for it. WTB buffs for pvp resto please.

Heres my 2 cents-

yeah thanks for opening the post its great right?

well the idea is good but when you open a post asking for questions about things to come im sure the shaman of wow would appreciate an appropriate response. i saw maybe 1 blue post per page if that. and i know its probably hard to fit a word in but what little words that the blue post consisted of were things like "please specify". and i dont know if that post was designed for blues to answer them or to put a bunch of shaman in a room and see what they all agree to complain on (which would still be numerous topics). i know blizz has quiet a big population to deal with but im really for "ask and you shall recieve" and it didnt look like anyone was really receiving. im sorry if this is flaming the work that blues do but im really not happy with blizz atm. love the game but would love it more if response time/ responses were quicker and better.

once again great idea just unsatisfying

Im frustrated as well and would like a response cause I mean im not trying to be a pain in the rear, I just would like to hear what Blizzard is thinking about this or thinking about that. If resto shaman is in the woodwork or are we not being looked at etc etc again not mad or emo raging just would like a response of what they are thinking of resto shaman.

Have I mentioned how skilled it is for a rogue to just to stun lock something. It amazes me what Blizzards thinking sometimes. Nerf warriors (which was a bit needed) but not rogues or frost dks. Amazes me.

Bah. It's all fine.

Let us see ... right now we are 21 pages

The others combined are 20 pages last I checked.

Did you lose the rock, paper, sissors game and get stuck with us???

I thought that Eyonix would be the one to post here.

But I'm glad to see you ... and I hope that we get some answers.

(Of course we are not even counting the two blued sub-threads. Looks like Neth will have to burn her candle on both ends for this one.)

I'd like to see some talent in the elemental tree that gives us a % of our int as SP. And maybe have our spells scale better. But deffinetly the int to SP conversion.

I am too positive to be doubtful, too optimistic to be fearful, and too determined to be defeated.

If you notice in the original sticky post, it explains what we are doing with these questions. Our intent is to answer as many of them as we can. We're not just creating buzz.

Keep up the good work, guys/gals! So far, only one post removed. Let's show up the other classes by having the best questions, and LEAST amount of moderation necessary!

Poor little candle ...... *hugs*

and I thought Eyonix as our little moderator .... or maybe they sent Neth because flaming a candle only makes her stronger.
