I just want to make sure I'm not just running circles around some sort of confirmation for this . . .

Lately, my guildmates have been talking about how blizzard has just, or is going to, put a cap on spellpower (2600 being the number they've been tossing around, IIRC), after which SP will suffer diminishing returns similar to tanks' avoidance stats. I keep looking and looking, and can find nothing to confirm this, official or otherwise.

So, I just want to confirm with people who should know for sure, this is just their imagination going wild, right? It makes no sense to me that they would do this. . . but then again as a former bear tank, the hard cap on armor didn't make much sense either.

It's impossible to debunk something that isn't rooted in reality.

This is the kind of thing that the only debunk you can say for it is it has nothing supporting it.

There is really no reason to do so either. PvP spell power is significantly lower than the PvE guys, so a cap wouldn't help there if the theoretical intention was to curb OP pvp healing, and it makes no real sense to cap out spell caster's primary dps stat without capping the melee dps stat at the same time.

Outrageous claims require outrageous evidence. Tell your guild mates to provide a source or shut up.

Yeah, hence this thread, just kind of a final step toward this end. If the casters here haven't heard of it, and I can't find anything confirming it, I'm considering it thoroughly debunked :-)

I'm inclined to agree with the above posters...I don't see a valid point in such a thing, aside from someone saying 'X shouldn't do 8k dps when I can only do 6'. In such a case, far more factors ( spec, class in general, skill differential, gear, rotation...list goes on) would weigh in at more importance than the most direct stat in things like healing, etc. go. Its too 'general' a stat in that damage and healing are effect by it to not -really- have a good reason for capping it. Here's to all the nice caster-people...no such thing doing. ^_^

At this point in time there is no cap on spellpower nor do we intend to introduce one.

I feel like I have to add "at this point in time" or players will dig up this quote ten years in the future if we ever decide to change it and accuse us of breaking promises. :)

So I shouldn't file this in my "future dirt on GC" folder?

Spell power cap incoming. You saw it here first. World of Meleecraft QQQQQ.

Too late GC.

People are already taking it out of context and assuming you are making a promise of putting a spellpower cap up.

I will define my domain, then conquer you.
