0. Changes to Items with Stealth Detection 05/14/2009 01:58:54 PM PDT
We recently made some changes to items that grant stealth detection. We felt these items provided a necessary advantage in competitive PVP and forced players to use lower level equipment even when more powerful items were available to them.
This item can no longer be used in the Arena:
Ultra-Spectropic Detection Goggles
We have removed stealth detection from the following items:
All epic engineering goggles
We have reduced the stealth detection of the following items:
Catseye Ultra Goggles
Blood Guard's Dragonhide Gauntlets
Marshal's Dragonhide Gauntlets
Knight-Lieutenant's Dragonhide Gloves
General's Dragonhide Gloves
Bloodvine Lens
Knight-Lieutenant's Dragonhide Grips
Blood Guard's Dragonhide Grips
The Night Watchman
All of these changes are already active and the tooltips will be updated with the next minor patch.

While I understand these changes, do you understand that this is yet another nerf to engineering, which was never all that impressive to begin with? You're already discontinuing goggles for the rest of Wrath. Is there anything for engineering to look forward to?
This also rather dashes my hopes that you were going to put in an engineering "enchant" to turn looted/bought headgear into goggles for the cloud/stealth detection...
Vehicles turn a very cool character with a wide range of options into a three button gimp-mobile.

While I'll miss the stealth detect, it was becoming more than necessary for stealth teams (you find the other stealther first = much, much higher chance of a win). Anything that necessary is unfortunately going to get nerfed.
How about boosting the engineering goggles then since that (presumably) consumed some item budget?
On a similar note, where are the WoTLK + stealth items? Far more of them in original WoW and BC.

Q u o t e: WTF IS THIS BULL CRAP!!!
Engineer goggles are itemized as stealth detection, and then the gods damned rogues @#%*% and gripe about it so it gets removed???
this is total CRAP blizz TYVFM you are useless.
and here I thought they couldn't screw it up any worse than they already had, and once again I get proven wrong.
Calm down. It's just a game. Balancing the usefulness of low level items is not a personal affront. Having a level 72 item [ http://www.wowhead.com/?item=42550#comments ] be mandatory for competitive pvp is not really a good direction for the game to go.
But I see your point. Engineering now offers no useful benefit.

Oh, Great. How about you remove Perception too, a huge advantage to human rogues, and the whole reason why I wear these goggles. Oh and maybe the free pvp trinket they get too :P

From all rogues everywhere, thank you. We were dipping below 20% representation in 2s and really needed this. It is entirely fair to balance entire professions around buffing our class.
P.S. Please give us more mobility. Periodically a good DK can peel me from a target and it's just not fair.

Q u o t e: Oh good, now engineering is even less useful!
Bingo. It already does far less than any other profession out there.
Blizz just can never seem to get it when it comes to professions, can they?

Already mathematically proven that the profession itself doesn't give near the raw stat benefits the other crafting professions do chief, try again. Any reasonable person playing the game already sees the profession as pretty worthless for a main character, and Blizz definitely doesn't want to bother working on it as evidenced by the most technologically advanced raid dungeon ever doesn't yield one new engineering schematic.

Is the human racial going to be reduced as well? It's already more effective than any of these items ever were. Losing my goggles basically means that I lose a stealth fight against a human rogue every single time, which will normally mean that my team loses an arena match. Is that intentional?

Look, you don't get it, it's just not fair.
The BoE blacksmithing plate helm that any profession can equip wasn't better in every single way than the BoP Engineering only plate DPS helm. With this removal, people can finally stop carrying both around.
