We are concerned that Elemental shaman dps is a little low in patch 3.1. We are going to hotfix an improved chance for the Lightning Overload talent to cast the half-damage Lightning Bolt or Chain Lightning. This hotfix should go in sometime over the next couple of days. The talent currently has a 7 / 13 / 20% chance to proc. The new change will be an 11 / 22 / 33% chance to proc.

We think this will provide a roughly 5% dps increase for say the raid-buffed level 80 Elemental shaman, but we will closely monitor the damage being done after this change. Note that the tooltip of the talent will not change from this hotfix – the talent will proc 33% of the time with 3 ranks, even though the tooltip says 20%. We will get the tooltip updated in a future client patch.

It's a start.

Any chance of looking into some better aoe? How about an air or water totem we can throw from a distance? As it stands, you're asking Ele Shaman to run up into melee and drop a fire totem, thus eliminating us from dropping ToW and buffing the raid. The more I think about it, the more a water totem sounds good. Especially since Mana Spring totems aren't usually needed now.

Q u o t e:

You're an idiot. Buff your raid you D-bag.

Nice insult. Reading comprehension ftl?

Blizzard said that Magma Totem was their answer to Ele aoe. I specifically pointed out (which you can see in your quote of me) that I note that doing this means we're not dropping our raid-buffing totem, ToW. Hence my asking for an aoe totem that isn't fire.

Q u o t e:

All you specifically pointed out was that you're one of those D-bags that is more concerned about epeen personal damage meters than helping your raid. We all know you've been dropping your magma totem on boss fights too just to boost your personal dps...don't try to deny it now. Like I said....D-bag.

We're back to a lack of reading comprehension here.

All I'm asking for is a personal dps buff while continuing to provide a raid buff. Aoe. Ferals and Rogues got their aoe off cooldown a while back. Every other class has some pretty solid aoe capabilities (Moonkin can have Starfall and Hurricane going). Ele Shaman get a totem that we're not supposed to use because it's a fire totem just like our primary raid buff. That's junk. There's no reason why we shouldn't be able to drop ToW and have an aoe that's compatible with our normal totem routine.

And if you're suggesting that personal dps isn't a concern, that's your own problem. Ele should be looking for personal dps gains while maintaining raid buffs. Given other classes have this (Druids with a 5-minute Faerie Fire, and Earth and Moon as part of their rotation, Shadow Priests with their hit buff as a part of their rotation as just some examples), I fail to see why Shaman need to sacrifice a fair amount of personal dps in order to buff the raid.

Lava burst is fine. Don't believe me? Check the EJ forums, all the math is there. Plus I'm glad they buffed an ability we spam as our main source of damage then one we use every 8 seconds.
