In order to better reward players for completing hard mode encounters in 10-player Ulduar, we will be updating weapon rewards from these hard mode encounters to an item level of 232 in the next minor patch. Players already with these items should see an increase in the power of these items to better reflect the new item level.

That makes sense from a risk/reward standpoint, but how does that interact with the Herald of the Titans achievement?

Came over here to ask the same question, actually.

Healers -> Tank <-> Dragon <- DPS

I assume they'll bump it up to requiring 232 and under items as well which will allow the use of 25man weapons (which will generally be slightly worse than the upgraded 10man hard mode weapons) but still lock out all of the 25man hard mode gear.

Wow, Brain twin powers, activate!

Though I am leaning more towards not being able to use them on algalon. Is there going to be a default way in game of telling item level? Right now I use a mod which provides that info and it is obvious to me but there are many players that may not be aware of how exactly ilevel works.

I think the point is, if the point of the achievement is to kill the pinnacle of 10man t8 raiding with 10man t8 gear, you shouldn't have to bank your best gear for downgrades you earned in 10man.

At the same time, you shouldn't be able to bring in 25 man gear to get the achievement.

In this minor content patch, we'll be updating this achievement from the item level 226 requirement to an item level 232 requirement.

Bear in mind that the description text of the achievement in the client will likely not be updated in this patch and will still reflect the outdated data.

I agree, but ilvl 232 means you can wear all your 25 man (non hard mode) gear and still get this... Might it be possible to get the achievement to be "Defeat him with only gear from 10 man ulduar or any size Naxx" instead of an ilvl restriction?

Wait....

That still doesn't change the fact that there's all of one 2H weapon (Aesir's Edge) in 10man hard modes and while it's passable for most specs, it's terrible for Arms because it's 3.5 (not 3.6 or 3.7) and a sword, easily the worst of the three weapon specs due to the internal cooldown.

*sigh* Looks like once again, PvPing for the best weapons is the only viable choice.

Zarhym: Is it mechanically infeasible to use a different identifier other than iLevel for this achievement?

Or make the weapons iLevel 231? Or only allow the weapon to be 232 and everything else to be lower?

I think it would be very disappointing for the one really cool challenge to the (granted very few) 10man only guilds out there to be pretty much invalidated because the only 232 slot you get in 10man is from weapon, while all the 25-man guilds have access to many more ilevel 232 slots from General/Yogg.

Great, now how 'bout raising the ilvl of non-hard-mode Ulduar 10 weapons also?

After all, non-hard-mode Ulduar 25 weapons are higher then the armor. Only seems fair, right?

All 25man 232 slots are either hard mode or weapons. Yogg and Vezax drop 226 gear on easy mode.

It's just the normal mode weapons that are 232 in 25, everything else is 226, even general/yogg loot.

10 man

iLvL 219 - Weapons/Armor
iLvL 226- Hard mode
ILvL 232 - Hard mode weapons (is a good change, and makes sense)

25 man

iLvL 226 - Armor
iLvL 232 - Weapons
iLvL 239 - Hard mode armor/weapons

Everything that drops in Ulduar 25 is at base 226 iLvL, regardless of what boss it is (excluding Algalon).

No dress rehearsal, this is our life.

My understanding was that this achievement and associated title was designed specifically for the people working on the 10-man progression path so there was something achievable that wasn't cheapened by the superior gear available from 25-man raids.

However, while allowing ilvl 232 gear (and to a lesser extent 226 gear as well) does mean all the drops available in 10-man can be worn for the achievement, it also allows a large percentage of the 25-man drops to also be worn for the achievement. If the achievement is tuned to be achievable in just 10-man gear, then the 25-man gear that is allowed may make it easier (since it may be better or less difficult to obtain), which seems to me to be completely against the point of having such a limit in the first place. 25-man gear comes from 25-man progression. This achievement was for 10-man progression. So, no 25-man gear should be allowed, even if it is of comparable quality.

Even if my initial understanding is incorrect (that this was supposed to be a carrot for 10-man progression), it still seems silly to me that 25-man gear is allowable for accomplishing what is supposed to be a 10-man achievement with a gear limit.
