We think Balance dps is a little low on live, but changing Improved Moonkin Form to 30% Spirit to Spellpower in 3.1.2 should be something like a 5% spellpower boost to raid-buffed druids, which should be around a 5% dps increase. YMMV.

Also keep in mind that the Ulduar fights are pretty diverse. Fights like XT are a dream for melee, especially rogues and cats.

Please honor the spirit (rimshot) of the OP's thread though and confine this discussion to that topic and not try and switch gears to other druid issues or other class issues just because I posted here. :)

doesn't affect the base dmg of spells. Unless you're increasing those by 5% too

I'm sorry but I'm not quite sure what you're saying here. Are you worried about the damage done by Moonkin wearing no gear and no buffs? Usually when players are concerned about low PvE dps, it's an end-game raiding concern. Hardly anything affects the base damage of spells except the spell rank.

well you said a 5% sp increase would be about a 5% dmg increase. would only be true if the base dmg of our spells were increased that amount too.

Not to derail the topic too much... but I don't think XT is much of a dream fight for Melee (although it could just be the way we do it)... I mean sure he stays still but there is a lot of other things going on. Like Gravity Bomb and Light Bomb things. If you have a ton of melee then that can kill them easily I'd think. Or require a TON of healing. And then lets not forget about the bots that come out and have to be taken care of...

XT isnt all that healing intensive, try mimiron

Well I meant if you had like 5 melee all grouped together because they couldn't spread out... Then you got those nice AE abilities hitting everyone there

If a spell does 2,000 damage base, and an additional 2,000 damage because of spell power, then we increase the latter by 5%, our overall damage only goes up by 2.5%.

Someone needs their morning coffee, me thinks. =P

oh you mean if people arent moving when they get gravity/light bomb? if so i havnt had any one in my guild mess that up so i couldnt comment on that.

Well not only that but the reaction time is going to cause 2 or 3 ticks of light before they get out of range. Thats a nice chunk of damage, not enough to kill hopefully but still a good chunk. Plus you never know when someone may think "Oh I only need to hit this one last key or finish channeling this" and then they don't move RIGHT AWAY...

Since we are including emalon, here's an emalon parse:

I tend to do pretty reasonably well on emalon.

Sorry, just going to add one thing. If anyone is curious about the differences between DPS'ing in ulduar with all the movement VS patchwerk style fights. My guild actually did a naxx run last week to try and get a few ilvl226 upgrades. The patchwerk parse was pretty ridiculous given that we weren't even trying to do a patchwerk speed run.

http://www.wowmeteronline.com/combat/3507138#damageout

That's the most I've ever done on a patchwerk. However it does go to show how much is theoretically possible if you don't have to move, AND if the fight is very short.

But again, none of the fights in Ulduar are like this, so in the real 'ulduar' world, do not expect to be able to put out numbers like this.

I want to see reports of Druids failing, or them succeeding.

I fail all the time in PvP. There was one time in WSG where I thought I was going to succeed but then I didn't.

I thank you for your reply GC, but I am curious about this response - if you still have time to answer me.

If, after the Spirit change, you still feel that Balance Druid DPS is a little low, could you perhaps throw some ideals out as to where you think about fixing it? I only ask because there are quite a few cases with some Druids where our DPS isn't too low. I know this is true for several of the Druids that posted here and myself. Just from personal experience, I've never found myself not in the top 5 on DPS. Generally, the Mages and I are the ones fighting for the top spot and I can beat them out depending on their RNG and mine.

The reason I ask this is because any real changes to Balance DPS would have to be done is such a way that our high extremes do not become too high and unbalance our DPS.

The only way I can think of doing this outside of changing Eclipse completely would be to alter Insect Swarm (again) and/or Moonfire to account for more of our DPS. Since these two spells don't effect Eclipse and their damage is currently very static, I suspect it's the easiest means of adjusting Balance DPS.

Anyway, back to reading through massive amounts of logs. Thanks to everyone that's posted thus far!

I think my dps is okay, I'm not where I used to be on the meters. The problem is the gear in Ulduar. The tier 8 gear set bonuses and stat allocations are not as good as tier 7, the new idol is a dps loss and not one piece of off set leather is worth using. The buff to improved moonkin form just means 70% of the spirit on our gear does nothing instead of 85%.
