I just updated with wowmatrix and they are now displaying a read me message for wowinterface and curse only sources. I intend to remove them as soon as i find a suitable wowmatrix replacement. I tested their statement about linking donations by using the interface link to donate $5 dollars to combuctor. I did receive a confirmation email from paypal. my intention is to start only using addons that allow wowmatrix hosting, and making contributions whenever I can afford. I will always use wowmatrix interface as the means to contribute so if you are not on there you are not getting my money.

<<UPDATE>>

I just went to the host site for combuctor where they directly solicit contributions. The PayPal Email they listed is the Email PayPal sent in the Contribution Confirmation email. So I have verified to the best of my abilities that at least this link was accurate and the contribution went to the developer.

It appears that WowMatrix is good at their word concerning funneling contributions to developers.

I also want to assure people I am not in any way affiliated with WM I have not ever contacted them, but I do intend to start making contributions to the project to help keep it alive.

I never really believed it when people said they were just using napster to find bands to buy, either.

they don't leach they host

u will notice i didn't insult u.

I read The full post from Wowinterface Their QQ was first WowMatrix hosted the files and stole their advertising. Their complaint the files were outdated and or modified (I can't verify the truth of that statement can u?) their next complaint is WowMatrix was Deep linking They put a stop that. That is their right and I have no problem with that. It is also my right to no longer visit WowInterface and use the installer I prefer. Since WowMatrix is so popular the eventual pressure will move other developers to allow WM to host or become an also ran.

Huh, so you're saying that you'll only use an interface that leeches bandwidth and denys page-views and therefore advertisement revenue to the sites it mooches from.

You disgust me.

Leeching bandwidth isn't cool. And I'll agree there. Forcing a paid subscription on people is also disgusting. And against Blizzards ToS.

I totally said that and didn't mean it. It was my original intent when Napster was small, but eventually it became "do I go to the store and buy this record or download it for free instantly right now?" I have migrated to iTunes, though, since it's cheap, quick and legal versus current gen file sharing software (which are still free, but it takes forever to find songs that aren't corrupted or hentai).

That being said, the problem with WoWMatrix is the situation that it's trying to solve: I am not going to 50 different websites to see if there's an update for any of my addons. It's just not going to happen. Curse Updater wasn't (and maybe isn't, I'm not sure) available for Macs, so WoWMatrix was my only option.

The result of this change isn't "I'm going to start visiting all those websites and installing add-ons by hand", it's "f*** it, I'll find something else". The only addons big enough to warrant separate fixes are Grid and Clique, as for TotemCaddy, NeedToKnow and the rest... Sorry, but you're not time-saving enough to justify wasting the time going to your site and installing by hand.

I'm glad you enjoy it, but watch for it to quietly disappear soon. The subscription fee alone is against Blizzard's new policy (you can't charge money for access to an addon), which will earn WM a Cease and Desist order from Blizzard eventually.

Umm, in case you missed it Curse is the one going to a paid sub model. Their current client (which sucks) will require a paid sub to use. Or the free crippled one with the ads and only updating one mod at a time.

Sleazy.

There is a beta client for Macs.

The problem is, people are not patient enough to wait for a client from Curse and or WoWI.

Both have made leaps and bounds over their original versions, and I manage ALL of my addons just fine with the Curse Client.

WoWMatrix needs to die. It was a leech, always will be a leech, and hopefully soon it will be totally gone.

They did change their policy and now host.

Damn, why are people so lazy. It takes maybe 10-15 minutes to update a rather huge collection of addons if you have half a brain.

Laziness is WoWMatrix's lifeblood.

Stop being lazy and use paper and pencil now instead of your computer to do things. Pot meet kettle...

There's a difference. Saying that you require a program to update your addons for you is like saying you need a robot sitting next to your toilet to wipe your butt for you; it's truly unnecessary and frankly a little silly.

Person you quoted can't use paper and a pencil to communicate on a forum. That, in and of itself, kind of negates your post. Though I agree the person is being very silly with their complaining about people using updaters.

Also, does anyone else hate that "Server is Busy" errors reset your post timer? You'd think they'd code things in such a way that if your post isn't actually posted, it wouldn't trigger the timer. Granted, I never took the time to learn much PHP, so I'm not sure how possible that is.

So if WM now host and allow credit and link for donations.. I'm not an expert on the debate, so enlighten me please, what grievances against them remain?

Tank in cat until the healer goes OOM, then innervate the ret paladin. Battle rez the mage that absolutely died from the aggro you didn't generate, and shift to bear. Makes everything heroic mode.
