Curse and WoWInterface blocked WoWMatrix from pulling addon data from them.

If you have to use an addon manager client, you will have to download Curse Client / WoWInterface Client.

Use WoWInterface client for addons that are not on Curse (some addons such as TomTom/Lightheaded are not listed on Curse Gaming because of the author's wishes).

Curse has a system called Curse Client. The first version was meh be the newest one is pretty decent I think at least.

This, of course, depends largely on the number of addons you have. I personally have 160 folders in my Addon directory. It took 2 evenings to research all of them and find IF updates were available after the patch.

The Curse and WoWInterface updaters are still crap, as they have been, especially so when compared to WoWMatrix.

I have no doubt the WoWMatrix guys will remedy the problem with a creative solution before long.

Do not use the curse client. You will literally spend maybe 30 minutes downloading, scanning and then dropping addons into your folder, tops if you do it manually. The extra time spent is worth account security.

Oo I have zillions of folders too... just have good virus scanner etc Oo

But yes, WoWmatrix is gone, and if one researches, it's quite understandable. I questioned it myself last fall/winter (and that's when i became a lil more active at WoWinterface, as I got to know a few of them).

Basically it's this:

WoWmatrix makes money off ads. Curse & WoWinterface make money off ads... well actually support their site.

WoWmatrix hosts nothing. WoWinterface and Curse host, maintain, monitor, and 'feed' a community, deal with bandwidth and server space, and were being deeplinked.

WoWmatrix was offering updates on addons that authors had actually specifically requested for them to not have on their software. WoWmatrix not only wouldn't, but also wouldn't reply. Addons, while offered to the public, are creations of the addon author's themselves, therefore (I do believe) protected under the general copywrite laws... but that's a tough one to persue.

Simplier is that addons, while offered freely, are also the author's babies... their art. And no one wants to see someone selling their painting in some gallery without their permission, or even in obvious 'denial' of their requests. In addition, when WoWmatrix first was offering the updates, they weren't giving credit/linking to the authors portal... while they've since added a link, there are a number of addons that do not (still). Also, the addons didn't have the information/how-to etc on the individual addons, but the authors themselves were having to deal with the complaints or expectations that this 'fast-food' service was creating by not offering the information in the first place.

Also, both Curse & WoWinterface had attempted to contact WoWmatrix in regards to their service, in regards to numerous factors (some of which I outlined, some which to come) and from what I understand, weren't met very friendly.

From what I was glancing at yesterday, apparently Curse spent quite a helllll of a lot of money just on patch day, to provide to us the addons we need & crave.

Demanding, expecting, and critizing such generous sites as WoWinterface & Curse, and the addon authors... I've never been so disgusted in my life.

And I don't mean the OP, I mean a lot of threads in the various forums, and some of the author's portals/addons. I mean seriously.... Anyways, please, if anyone has more facts to add about the addon sites/authors, please please add them to this if you could. I'm personally not replying to anything added to this thread after this, as I'm not getting into a 'hell no/yes' war, because it is a never-ending voyage into hell lmao.

Addon authors don't release all their updates in sync. You an easily mark the addons as your favorite and receive e-mail notifications as to when they are updated. You may have to do 1-2 a week even with 160+ addons, but it keeps you up to date with little time spent.

For big patch days, yeah, most release it on the day so a client wouldn't be a bad idea.

Actually very good point... and addon authors tend to (not all) but most, have a preferred site.. they might offer it on both, but there is usually one they update regularly.

One thing that can help is this:

http://fin.instinct.org/wowmods/

you can get a gadget, google link, rss of this...

It's the best method for those who not only use both sites, but prefer manual and have a great deal of addons.

Please, if you are unaware of an addon's abilities/possible conflicts:

Go to the author's portal.

(There are links to the the portals in the link I put there, just click on the addon, and read it and scroll down).
